These photos are from Ringim LGA in Jigawa State -- these are fields of 2024/25 dry-season wheat, nearing harvesting. Nigeria has ambitions to become self-sufficient in wheat, and Jigawa wants to be at the center of this. That a wheat revolution is possible has already been demonstrated in Ethiopia, with @AfDB_Group support, through its Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program. 2018/19, Ethiopia's irrigated-wheat area was less than 5,000 hectares. Within 3 years (2021/22) this had grown to 650,000 hectares. That same TAAT is now, along with partners, supporting Nigeria to ramp up irrigated-wheat production.

Sola Faleye, the Personal Assistant to the late Herbert Wigwe, said he was supposed to fly in the chopper, but on second thought, he decided to accompany their luggage by road since the chopper could not carry it. According to Falaye, he decided to accompany the luggage by road to ensure it arrived safely to his boss, who told him it was a brilliant idea.
