MTN REPORTS R27BN PROFIT
MTN Group has completed a dramatic financial recovery, turning a R10.9 billion loss in 2024 into a R27.4 billion profit for 2025.
This turnaround was powered by a 50% tariff hike in Nigeria and the stabilisation of the naira, alongside strong growth in Ghana.
The group also reached a historic milestone, now serving over 307 million customers across Africa.
While the South African market struggled with intense competition in the prepaid sector, MTN’s fintech and data divisions increased.

𝐊𝟐𝟏 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭
Over K21.3 billion (more than US$1 billion equivalent) just flooded into GRZ bonds, smashing a K4.2 billion target and delivering the largest auction demand in Zambia’s history, according to results issued by @BankofZambia for the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
February didn’t just beat January, it obliterated it. January attracted K10.1 billion in bids. February doubled that to K21.3 billion. While headline yields eased across major tenors (notably the 10-year from 17.19% to 16.60% and the 15-year from 18.79% to 17.59%), the weighted average yield actually moved from ~16.58% in January to ~16.83% in February, driven by massive allocations into longer-dated paper. The simple translation is that investors are piling aggressively into duration, even as pricing tightens on benchmark bonds.
We thought January was record-breaking.
February just made it historic.
Over K21 billion chasing government securities.
Long-end demand exploding.
Confidence unmistakably rising.
This is a structural shift.

We opened the first Shona Prince Technologies retail branch around this time last year in Maputo 🇲🇿 with only 2 staff members. I could barely speak Portuguese and was unfamiliar with the environment, but I believed the model of building a purely specialized Starlink Retail store was worth building & spend months at it.
There are weeks I spent in the hot, humid & unforgiving weather at Rossano Garcia border trying to get our shipments in the country. Those initial shipments were all the capital I had, and if things had gone sideways, I would have tanked. I personally escorted trucks & the drivers, ensuring this valuable cargo made it's way to Matola, where several contract workers would assist us offloading in the middle of the night when it was cooler, and 'safer', I was extremely paranoid about everything.
Last week, I was back in Maputo after several months away, and decided to take the local team members to dinner, to appreciate them for their work. 30 full time staff members showed up lol!
To be honest, I shouldn't have been surprised. Over the past 12 months, we've scaled to 7 countries, and 154 staff members across the region. We have experienced every possible challenge you can imagine in growing this business, some challenges are too painful to even describe here.
What I'm most proud of however, is watching people's lives change through our work. For some employees, Shona is their first job ever, and they love it! Some have furthered their education, gotten married, moved cities & so much more all in what seems to be a flash in time. This what is truly worth fighting for in business, and what I defend daily to ensure it continues to thrive, regardless of what is thrown at us.
