What’s often missing from discussion about Afghanistan is a critical look at how two decades of international presence led to the harsh reality Afghan women & girls face today. None of this was inevitable; it was man-made. malala.org/newsroom/we-ca… @MalalaFund

Destroying villages, killing journalists, looting property and occupying another country's sovereign territory doesn't exactly sound like "fighting Hezbollah"

Disinformation about London has become a global industry. The new “outrage economy” is growing - and it’s eating away at the bonds that hold our society together. That's why I'm calling for urgent action from social media companies and government. theguardian.com/media/2026/apr…

"The authorities in Australia charged a former elite soldier on Tuesday with five counts of “war crime — murder” over the deaths of Afghan nationals from 2009 to 2012, in what could be the most consequential military prosecution in the country’s history." @Laura_R_Chung nytimes.com/2026/04/07/wor…

◾️The Pakistani airstrikes on a Kabul drug rehabilitation center last month were the deadliest attack on civilians in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in 2021. ◾️The United Nations’ mission in Afghanistan has so far confirmed 269 civilian deaths, 122 injured, and says the death toll is likely higher. Taliban officials say more than 400 people were killed, which international humanitarian organizations operating in Afghanistan say is credible. ◾️Our reporting suggests that Pakistan missed its target. The real target was less than 300 yards away behind a blast wall and housed drone parts. It appears to be intact. ◾️Since early 2023, the Taliban have rounded up thousands of drug users and placed them in facilities at times tucked in military compounds, where they face unmedicated, forced withdrawal in conditions that foreign officials have described as arbitrary detention. ◾️Two days before the strike on the Kabul center, Pakistan hit an empty military building adjacent to a drug rehabilitation center in the southern province of Kandahar. No civilian casualties were reported. ◾️Pakistani military officials have suggested that the patients in Kabul were being trained to become suicide bombers. They have provided no evidence to back that claim. ◾️The strikes abruptly ended the lives of husbands, brothers and sons who struggled with depression, grief or the shame of unemployment, their families said. Many said their relatives had ebbed for years between erratic behaviors, domestic violence and glimmers of hope shattered by relapses. Free link to our story below

We're on the verge of a genocidal, nuclear war that our supposed "ally" has said he's ready to unleash. Would it be too much to ask for the Prime Minister to have something to say about it? Or do? Suspend US bases now.

Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.

Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi calls on filmmakers to speak out against escalation of Iran War: "Attacking a country’s infrastructure is a war crime." "I call on artists and filmmakers everywhere in the world to be a voice in these critical days and hours, in any way possible, to stop the destructive aggression that has increasingly destroyed civilian infrastructure. Infrastructure that belongs to the Iranian people and is related to the basic needs of their daily lives. The destruction of infrastructure is not just the destruction of buildings, it is an attack on human life and dignity. Attacking a country’s infrastructure is a war crime. Regardless of any beliefs or attitudes, let’s unite to stop this inhumane, illegal and destructive process." variety.com/2026/film/glob…

Superb political ad. One of the best you’ll see. This is better, and resonates more, than anything coming from Labour or the Tories.

Ever heard of Palantir? Here's why it matters: Palantir is a US software company. It specialises in data products, used widely by governments for surveillance, intelligence and military purposes. In January 2024, Palantir signed a contract with the Israeli military to use its technology in support of “war-related missions.” Palantir has a deep relationship with US law enforcement. It supplies ICE with tools that can be used for surveillance and targeting of migrants in the US. Now, that same company is working at the heart of the UK National Health Service. Palantir has already received £330 million of our money for its contract with our NHS England. Health workers and patients have been ringing the alarm for years: this is not right. What’s happening in Gaza is an ongoing genocide. We shouldn’t have a company linked to human rights abuses have anything to do with the health of patients in the UK and the public health system. Racism towards Afghans is so casual now in British politics. British Afghans have been living in this country for more than 30 years, we are doctors, pharmacists, business owners, lawyers, nurses&engineers! We are not responsible for criminals, nor the Brexit mess that got them here

"The centre was 50 per cent destroyed." Jacopo Caridi, the Norwegian Refugee Council's Afghanistan country director, tells me he saw bodies being carried from the rubble of the drug rehab centre reportedly bombed by Pakistan. He says younger Afghans live in fear amid the rising hostilities, despite both nations calling for a ceasefire. #kabulstrikes #afghanistan #pakistan
