"Islamophobia" has been around longer than that but wasn't an organic, long-standing clinical term It had a few obscure early 20th-century uses (French "islamophobie" around 1910–1918, English in 1923), but it was basically dormant- just like the rare early-1900s "homophobia" meaning "fear of men" (mostly applied to women & it never caught on) Then, in the 1990s, "Islamophobia" was deliberately revived & weaponised in a linguistically similar way to how George Weinberg's "homophobia" was rolled out in the late 1960s* TLDR: It's not about actual clinical fear in most cases. It's about linguistic judo: whoever controls the "-phobia" label controls the Overton window. Criticism of Islam = irrational hate. (Also, criticism of certain trans activism = irrational hate) NB: these terms started (or were revived) with some basis but became blunt instruments (with "homophobia" being less existentially threatening to eg religious critics) "Homophobia" helped end unjust laws "Islamophobia" too often protects unjust ideas The "phobia" framing works best when the target is weak & non-threatening; it grates when applied to a belief system with global power & expansionist history *The rare early-20th-century sense of "homophobia" (fear/aversion to men, mostly applied to women) never gained real traction. It stayed obscure, appearing in a handful of newspaper & medical articles, & faded away Meanwhile, the 1969+ version- focused on prejudice against homosexuality, emerging from (predominantly male) gay activist circles & quickly amplified by media, academia, & the broader LGB (now with the additional TQ+) rights movement- became extremely widespread within a few years

I was today years old when I learned that the term “Islamophobia” was developed in the 1990s by the Muslim Brotherhood and organisations close to them. Why? To copy the term “homophobia” so that criticism of Islamic ideology was stifled and silenced.

@Rustum_0 No, Major-General Charles George Gordon ("Chinese Gordon") was not a Muslim. He was a devout, evangelical Christian who was widely regarded in Britain as a "Christian hero" and martyr

Bollywood is so anti-Muslim that in the patriotic movie “Mangal Pandey” (2005), they purposefully suppressed this fact. Major Gordon who fought alongside Indians against British, was a Muslim. Not just him, but hundreds of British had converted to Islam & adopted Hindustani (Urduvi) Muslim culture and fought with their Indian Muslim religious brethren against British in the name of Emperor.

The Jihad (War) of 1857 was entirely Muslim led. In fact the people who commenced the war were the 3rd Native Cavalry made up totally of Muslims. The leadership was Muslim, the unifying factor was Muslim. I'm attaching some posts below: British Newspaper; 05/09/1857: “Mahommedans, and not Hindoos were the prime instigators of the plot; that the conspiracy is Mahommedan; and that the Hindoos have been made the instruments of villains more crafty and more savage than themselves.” 1. x.com/i/status/19493… 2. x.com/i/status/20189… 3. x.com/i/status/18896… 4. x.com/i/status/18896…

There is now talk of military conscription in Australia. Let's be brutally frank, I have no interest in being drafted or seeing my sons be drafted to fight a foreign war on behalf of an Australian government I do not respect. One that clearly loves to tax but doesn't care.

Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida personally pilot their own aircraft on official trips—something extremely rare among world leaders. Both are qualified pilots: The King is a trained military and commercial pilot from his time in the Royal Thai Army, certified on fighter jets (like F-5 and F-16) and large jets including the Boeing 737. He has thousands of flight hours. The Queen holds a commercial pilot license, with prior experience as a flight attendant for Thai Airways before her military service.

🚨 WOMAN ASKS THE INTERNET: “WHY DOES NOBODY WANT TO LEAVE THE HOUSE ANYMORE?” — AND THE FLOODGATES BURST OPEN A mom posted a video asking something that’s been bothering her. Why does nobody want to go out anymore? Not for work. Not for fun. Not even for simple things. She says unless it’s a trip somewhere, she just doesn’t feel like leaving the house at all. Then the floodgates opened. People started admitting they feel the exact same way. Some of the replies: • “It costs $100 every time I leave the house.” • “I’d rather stay home than deal with people.” • “COVID turned me into a permanent homebody.” • “Nothing outside feels worth the effort anymore.” What started as one simple question suddenly turned into thousands of people realizing they aren’t the only ones feeling this way. Be honest… do you actually enjoy leaving the house anymore?

How bad might this get? Some figures from Australia 🧵: In late 1973 when the Yom Kippur war and oil shocks began, Australia was approx 70% self sufficient in crude and had 8 refineries servicing a population of 13.3m. It was 100% self sufficient in refined products.

Im a lot more sympathetic to Aboriginal place names than my mutuals - I'd be happy if they were recorded as a point of curiosity and knowledge rather than being defacto name changes completely on signs and ABC weather reports etc. Interesting how its presented though today, when we have changed names before and the stated purpose was to erase the history of the originals. They even changed older German names given by Matthew Flinders that had nothing to do with settlement. We changed the name of baked goods and pubs to get rid of the memory.
