Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.
Pro-Aboriginal is not anti-white,
nor does loving your culture mean you are less Australian.
These things are not mutually exclusive
A history denied is compelled to repeat itself; and each year on January 26th, we celebrate the trauma inflicted on Aboriginal people.
From a position of science, it is the denial of trauma that compounds and magnifies the original trauma; because you are forced to expend more energy 'convincing' people you have experienced trauma rather than on healing from the trauma itself.
The denial extends to invisibility.
Aboriginal people are not celebrated for our contribution to this country on January 26; and there is not greater injustice than to feel invisible. To feel as though you matter less.
I am a proud Australian and I would like the basic right to celebrate that.
But until we have a maturity of leadership that has the bravery and honesty to acknowledge our past; our future will continue to be limited by ignorance,

Gisèle Pelicot is on the stand today and asked about her decision to continue using the surname "Pelicot".
Gisèle explains that when the trial began her children were "ashamed" of the name.
She adds: "I have grandchildren who are called that.
"Today, I want them to be proud of their grandmother.
"My name is known across the world now. They shouldn't be ashamed of carrying that name.
"Today we will remember Gisèle Pelicot."
Yes we will. What a woman.

Again. Again. Again. Again. 56 times again. Just after midnight, emergency services tried their best to save a woman who was assaulted in Malak, NT. A man has been arrested. Police have confirmed the woman's death is suspicious. She is the 56th Australian woman killed this year.
“Just as women’s safety is a key priority for National Cabinet, we need children’s safety and wellbeing to be made a national priority. Despite decades of evidence, there is currently a lack of accountability and urgency for change.”
Brilliant to see this call to action from the National Children’s Commissioner @AnneHollondshumanrights.gov.au/about/news/med…
