There were a number of people who were arrested for public violence, looting and robbery arising from the March and March incitement against foreign nationals. Yet there is an attempt to push the narrative that “protests were largely peaceful” as a dominant theme and to dismiss the recorded criminality. The IMC and Natjoint out of necessity to manage perceptions globally are also running with this theme. At the centre of this PR attempt is the refrain that government respected ‘the right to protest’. It cannot be ignored that people were harassed, intimidated, assaulted and murdered under the guise of exercising the said right. There can be no right that empowers anyone to commit crime.
