After leaving Kimberley in 1986 to find myself a place in the world; 30 years after returning to South Africa to vote for the first democratic republic post apartheid, and 20 years after leading the rebranding of this magnanimous 150 years old institution, the 10th biggest university in the world with some 400,000 students, I'm beyond humbled to return here to join some 300 outstanding Africans and global luminaries who have been bestowed with this honour since 1899, including Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Koffi Annan, to be honoured with a doctorate (hc) for my contributions to our Africa and branding. It was arguably one of the most incredible ceremonies I've been to ably led by the inspirational and impressive Prof. @LenkaBula and her council and staff. I'm honoured.
