@chinecheremphi Gyokeres is by no means perfect, and as I said I think we should sell him in the summer, but when we do we won't make a loss.

@chinecheremphi 80 million for a 21 year old with no experience who never scored more than 15 goals in a season. Plus huge agent fees. 55 million for a 27 year old in his prime who just scored 100 goals in 2 seasons. We needed someone who could come in and immediately lead the line.

I think Andrea Berta got it wrong in his options for a striker for Arsenal. Sesko would have done better at Arsenal than Gyokeres owing to the fact that the style of football we play will see Sesko fit in very fast than Gyokeres. Sesko would also have a better resale value with his age than Gyokeres, but the did is done, we have to live with it.
DailyAFC@DailyAFC

🚨 Arsenal explored different options for the striker position last summer. Andrea Berta held reservations over the Benjamin Sesko deal, especially when factoring in salary, bonuses & commission. The Italian spearheaded Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres, though he would have proceeded with Sesko if instructed, but made plain he considered it a bad deal. In the end, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta aligned with his recommendation. ❌🇸🇮 [@gunnerblog]

Ethan Nwaneri at Arsenal is a weird situation now. This loan has been a mess, which I called out 4 weeks into his time there, which it has only got worse. He is not getting any game time, and looks miserable. Which doesn't help at all. But I do have some big questions if Marseille don't even want to play him knowing it would cost them less money. He should have been giving more chances at Arsenal this season, but that midfield slot is always going to be hard to crack. I think we should keep him and trust him, but some major concerns about him are clearly there.

@FootballEra_ I agree but I think a huge part of problem is Gyokeres. He has the technical ability of a drunk elephant. We need to move on from him in the summer, luckily we got a good deal so I'm sure we can recover what we paid, but clearly it's not working with him.

Something is seriously wrong at Arsenal. There are clear technical and tactical issues, and the players are trying to compensate for them with hard physical and mental labour — excessive running, intensity, passion, even shouting. At this stage of the season, when fatigue has already set in after putting their bodies on the line all year, they should simply be playing football. Instead, they’re using hard labour to cover up the poor football on display from a tactical and technical level, and that’s exactly why they now look physically and mentally exhausted. Meanwhile, Man City players aren’t relying on heavy physical or mental labour, they’re just playing football within a system that works. That’s why they look fresh, even in the middle of a title race that could come down to goal difference.

Sébastien Squillaci was the experienced French centre-back who arrived at Arsenal during a turbulent defensive rebuild under Arsène Wenger. Rewind to the summer of 2010. Arsenal had lost key defenders and needed immediate stability at the back. They signed the 30-year-old from Sevilla for around £4 million. With his leadership qualities, aerial strength and a strong pedigree from French and Spanish football, Squillaci was seen as a reliable veteran who could step straight into the starting line-up. He quickly earned the nickname “The Corsican Commander” among fans for his commanding presence. The Night He Lit Up Belgrade 28 September 2010. A hostile Champions League group-stage clash away at Partizan Belgrade. The atmosphere was intense, and Arsenal needed a result. Late in the game, with the score at 2-1, Samir Nasri swung in a dangerous cross. Squillaci lost his marker, rose powerfully and planted a clinical header past the goalkeeper to make it 3-1. The travelling Arsenal fans went wild. It was his first goal for the club and a reminder of the threat he could pose from set-pieces. (He later added a second goal for Arsenal against Stoke City from another header.) The Premier League Reality Squillaci had been a proven winner in France — two Ligue 1 titles with Lyon and a Champions League final appearance with Monaco — but adapting to the pace and physicality of the Premier League proved tough. He formed a partnership with the young Laurent Koscielny that often looked shaky and left fans nervous. After a solid debut season in which he played a big part during a defensive crisis, Wenger signed Per Mertesacker. Squillaci’s appearances dropped dramatically; he made just one more Premier League start over the next two years. In total, he played 39 times for the Gunners across all competitions. A true ‘what if’ figure of Arsenal’s 2010 transition period: 🔴 39 appearances for the Gunners, shouldering much of the defensive burden in his first season. ⚽ The random goalscoring centre-back who delivered crucial headers in Europe and the league. 🇫🇷 The decorated French veteran with a trophy-laden career from Lyon and Monaco. 💔 The victim of the brutal speed of English football, unfairly remembered more for late-career struggles than his impressive peak elsewhere. He eventually returned to France with Bastia, where he rediscovered his form and enjoyed a strong final chapter. Those intense months at the Emirates — full of desperate tackles, thumping headers and moments of real leadership — made him one of the most talked-about and debated cult heroes to ever wear the famous red and white shirt.

@football_pb Completely agree about Calafiori. I would play Jesus on the right though. He can stay wide and be direct and at times float in and link play.

vs Man City Raya RB Saliba Gabriel LB Zubi Rice RW Eze Leo Havertz I get Kai hasn't been great, but we can't afford to turnover possession 99% of the time we go long. LB - If any way we can get Calafiori on the pitch do that. RB - Torn between a fresh White and the extra CB Mosquera - probably a game share. RW - If Saka can give us 60, same as Calafiori lets do it - if not I would go with Max. Give them something to worry about, Noni well off it currently.

I've criticised him a lot, so I'll give him his praise. Gabriel Jesus has been very good in the last two games off the bench. He was actually able to hold of players and compete in the air and pass or dribble quickly. He has been finding more space and coming deeper into this midfield role, which he looks way better in. Early days, but maybe there is something there.

@_ArsenalTeam Why would we risk it for 60 million when Mingueza is available for free. Technically gifted, can also cover at left back, and can step into midfield. Even if they were available for the same price I would prefer Mingueza honestly. Top player.

🚨| Arsenal are conducting thorough medical checks on Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento before making a formal approach, per BBC. Sporting director Andrea Berta sees the 23-year-old England international as the ideal long-term successor on the right side of defence. Talent undeniable. Durability the key question after past ACL and recent knee issues. With contract talks stalled at St James’ Park (2 years left), a summer move could be on — if the numbers and medicals stack up. Smart, patient work from the hierarchy. Future-proofing the backline? 🔴⚪ What do Gooners think — worth pursuing at £60m+ or look elsewhere? #AFC #COYG

🚨 Arsenal are focusing on the future, keeping an eye on players under 22 as part of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plan. The Gunners are also tracking Frankfurt’s attacking midfielder Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, who has shone this season and could cost around €40m. Additionally, they’re monitoring 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha Berlin, another promising talent who could join Arsenal’s growing pool of young prospects.

A proud milestone for Arsenal centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, who fulfilled a lifelong dream by making his debut for the Spanish national team last night 🇪🇸 The young defender came on in the 83rd minute against Serbia, replacing fellow rising star Pau Cubarsí, marking a special moment in his career. With that appearance, Mosquera is now officially tied to Spain and is no longer eligible to represent Colombia, his parents’ country. His focus now shifts to earning a spot in Spain’s squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Congratulations to Cristhian Mosquera 👏

The "really complicated" tag from Romano is basically the transfer market's version of a "keep dreaming" sign. Arsenal fans know Arteta loves a winger who can invert and create chaos, but Napoli’s de Laurentiis isn't just an "obstacle"—he’s a brick wall with a €120m price tag. Kvaratskhelia in Red and White is the "perfect" fit on paper, but until the checkbook matches the ambition, this is just tactical window shopping while the elite wingers get snapped up elsewhere.

🚨JUST IN: “Really complicated” – Fabrizio Romano delivers verdict on Arsenal move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a name being linked with Arsenal, but Fabrizio Romano believes any deal will be difficult to pull off. Arsenal are keen on Kvaratskhelia but when it comes to actually doing the deal, Romano believes there’s plenty of obstacles to combat. Arsenal are known to be keen on adding a winger this summer and it’s seen as a priority for Mikel Arteta. 🗣️“Then if you ask me if there is interest, of course there is. For example, for Arsenal, he would probably be the ideal player, the perfect winger. But at this stage, it’s really really complicated,” Romano revealed. “Then I still expect Arsenal to go for a winger in this transfer window, but it’s complicated for Kvaratskhelia.” Would love to have kvicha at Arsenal? 🚨🗣️ Pep Guardiola: "The difference between Messi and this generation? I’ll be honest, if Messi were still in Europe, half of these stars… you wouldn’t hear much about their names. Today’s forwards score 20 goals a season and are considered legends. Messi would score 20 goals in two months or half a month and still complain he wasn’t at his best. Players today celebrate routine goals. Messi used to embarrass us by scoring world-class goals every single week. You know what the difference is between Messi and today’s generation? They need tactical analysis, performance-tracking devices, and nutritionists. Messi just needed a ball, boots, and my permission to train three extra hours. I’m coaching Haaland now, and he’s amazing. But if Messi were in the Premier League, Erling would be playing left back. Messi didn’t compete against players, he competed against our idea of what was impossible. Today Mbappé runs, Haaland scores, and De Bruyne passes, but no one, no one, can make us say, ‘Oh my God, how did he do that?’ Some players create stats. Messi created pure wonder." [PurelyFootball]

@alexmoneypenny I'd definitely keep Hincapie to develop the relationship with Saliba a bit more before Stamford Bridge. I wouldn't tinker with the midfield either, Brentford away is when you can rest Zubi but not for this one for me. I'd start either Noni or Gabi though, and same for Sunday.
