the way they executed this in the show was fine but the issue is the whole blackmail subplot just fell through and it didn't matter in the long run. so thats another win for the comic

The most infamous issue of The Boys comic book The Seven are sent in during the 9/11 terrorist attack. They fail the rescue mission out of sheer arrogance and stupidity, causing the hijacked plane to crash into the Brooklyn Bridge (rather than the twin towers) killing thousands. Vought-American covers it up which The Boys use as blackmail.
