One week ago today, the same day as my Ironman race, I quietly celebrated the biggest accomplishment of my life. I reached 1,200 days alcohol-free after quitting a 37-year daily drinking habit that began at age 13. I was in 7th grade when most days started with drinking 2-3 beers in the morning before school. Things slowly escalated from there over the course of many years until eventually I was drinking more in a single day, everyday, than most casual drinkers likely consume in an entire month. My wake-up call came 3 years ago when I walked into my dentist's office and they refused to do my routine cleaning. My blood pressure was too high due to the effects of excessive alcohol. They instead called an ambulance which was waiting for me out front until I got into my car. I had constant lower back pain from injured kidneys and had very little feeling in my lower legs from nerve damage. So, in July 2021, I vowed to quit and started my health and fitness journey. I completely stopped drinking alcohol, lost over 80 lbs, and started daily cardio and strength exercises. Fast forward to this past weekend and I was incredibly humbled to be at a fitness level to successfully complete a full IRONMAN Triathlon. But in all honesty it didn't matter if I crossed the finish line that day or not because I knew I had already won. ✨

my friend who makes jewelry made me a surprise piece to open tomorrow for one year sober. well, I decided to open it today when the craving to drink hit me harder than it has in a while it worked it’s magic—I’m still sober I have the best friends in the world. I’m so grateful.
