Namibia rejects Germany’s Support of the Genocidal Intent of the Racist Israeli State against Innocent Civilians in Gaza On Namibian soil, #Germany committed the first genocide of the 20th century in 1904-1908, in which tens of thousands of innocent Namibians died in the most inhumane and brutal conditions. The German Government is yet to fully atone for the genocide it committed on Namibian soil. Therefore, in light of Germany’s inability to draw lessons from its horrific history, President @hagegeingob expresses deep concern with the shocking decision communicated by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany yesterday, 12 January 2024, in which it rejected the morally upright indictment brought forward by South Africa before the #InternationalCourtofJustice that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in #Gaza. Worryingly, ignoring the violent deaths of over 23 000 Palestinians in Gaza and various United Nations reports disturbingly highlighting the internal displacement of 85% of civilians in Gaza amid acute shortages of food and essential services, the German Government has chosen to defend in the International Court of Justice the genocidal and gruesome acts of the Israeli Government against innocent civilians in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Germany cannot morally express commitment to the United Nations Convention against genocide, including atonement for the genocide in Namibia, whilst supporting the equivalent of a holocaust and genocide in Gaza. Various international organizations, such as Human Rights Watch have chillingly concluded that Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza. President Geingob reiterates his call made on 31 December 2023, “No peace-loving human being can ignore the carnage waged against Palestinians in Gaza”. In that vein, President Geingob appeals to the German Government to reconsider its untimely decision to intervene as a third-party in defence and support of the genocidal acts of Israel before the International Court of Justice.

I have avoided using this platform for politics / current affairs and have tried to restrict myself to science, but with current events, this is no longer possible. Here are some thoughts about what is happening. It is long and rambling. Apologies. 1/24

my favorite part of using @matrixdotorg is being gaslit by the main messenger I'm using to communicate with those I care about love to see a series of messages described as "delivered" and "seen", then compare screenshots and find out that many of them just never were

@acruiz @whitequark @ShmarvDogg @brymko The Rust project neither has proper governance, nor acceptable management of its trademarks, nor is it sustainable. I would be more susceptible to the "necessary evil" angle if the Rust foundation ever did a single thing to help me.

@whitequark @sheevink @ShmarvDogg @brymko Pretty much any open source project at a given scale needs a non for profit for proper governance and trademark and fund management if it wants to be sustainable. A foundation can be mismanaged but that doesn't make it any less of a necessity.

@sheevink @whitequark any1 can join the foundation, for silver tier its like 5k/yr if <100 employees. Saying this is a "promotion" is extremely cringe

@algo_luca @BRIAN_____ @Lokathor @Veykril Of course, since then, the project has done nothing to help people to get paid for their work on Rust, and the Foundation is also not paying anyone to maintain rust-analyzer.

@algo_luca @BRIAN_____ @Lokathor @Veykril Here, their decision was to require the removal of all links to the fundraising efforts, because they did not want to "officially endorse" it.

"Oh no, a company that literally sells software for money is... selling software for money!" 🙄 The Rust community should be extremely happy that JetBrains has decided to double-down on Rust and launch a standalone IDE. It's proof they see a future in this ecosystem.

@algo_luca @BRIAN_____ @Lokathor @Veykril It would have probably helped if the Core Team did not actively oppose funding rust-analyzer back when r-a became an official part of Rust

@jynelson514 I didn't do it to improve the project, I did it hoping that it makes other people make a better decision than to get involved in it

@fasterthanlime the Rust project has a history of doing similar things, so this incident absolutely *is* a reflection of the project
