@CMcCulloughEA @KJSAcct @SNS92569093 Many times people forget they own these and don't cash them out when they mature. Regardless of that fact, it's income to them in the year they mature. When they finally get the cash years later it's not taxable and it's often beyond 3 or 6 years and can no longer be taxed.

@MagisterTax QCDs and then roll that same amount to a Roth. Exact same tax situation this year, but reduces tax in all future years. Virtually the only tax planning available for someone in retirement with minimal assets.

If they aren’t going to end the monetization program here, which I think they should, then at the very least they need to significantly raise the standard for who can monetize. The whole point of “revenue sharing” is that the people driving revenue should get a piece of it. But most of these engagement farmers and slop merchants aren’t really driving revenue. Nobody is coming to X to read their stuff. If it happens to pop up in your feed, maybe you interact with it. But their content is totally interchangeable. Just mindless filler. The more you incentivize and reward that kind of content, the more of it you get. They need to come up with a way to incentivize actual high quality content. If they can’t, the whole program should be scrapped.

Quoted in CNBC today (thanks @katedore) on the IRS paper check phaseout and the CP53E notice mess. Over 830,000 filers have gotten these notices so far. The part that matters to practitioners: when your client gets one, you can’t update their banking info for them. Not even with a 2848 on file. They have to do it themselves through their IRS online account. That’s a real problem for clients who struggle with technology or don’t want to hand banking details to the IRS. Would be real nice for states to catch up with the times and accept extension payments on business returns through tax software. I can pay a balance due when I file the return but cant auto-draft the extension payment??? @TaxTwitter

I'm watching/listening to a budgeting YouTube podcast. Guests are from the bayou of LA. Talks about drunk driving is ok if you off road in the woods. Not good with tech. He works at a nuclear power plant. Reminds me of how you describe Arkansas farmers.
