Montoya raced in the V10 era not V8s apart from half of 2006, and he’s right it was awful but mainly due to the people running the sport and the way it was handled.

It’s still crazy that many changes & concerns with the new F1 engines continues to be something Max Verstappen or Christian Horner said years ago.
And the irony is some dismissed the concerns at the time because it was painted as just Red Bull worried about its engine.

🔴 Ferrari devrait donc bel et bien apporter ses mises à jour moteur au Grand Prix de Spa-Francorchamps. Ça nous fait donc 5 courses avec ce déficit : - Canada (souffrir) - Monaco (ok) - Barcelone (ok) - Autriche (+/- souffrir) - Silverstone (souffrir) Spa sera la 10ème course d'une saison où il restera encore 10 courses à disputer (peut-être 11 avec la récupération de Jeddah). C'est loin d'être fini (à condition que McLaren et Red Bull prennent des points à Mercedes). Pour cela que j'insiste : rester la tête froide. Ne pas tomber dans l'émotion en prenant des décisions qu'on risque de regretter. Maximiser les weekends comme on est capable de le faire. Il faut continuer sur le bon chemin qui a été entrepris sur la SF-26 en la développant au maximum pour qu'on puisse être prêt à Spa. Mais attention : la décision sur une ADUO à 2% ou 4% sera DÉTERMINANTE.

This is just a Hamilton thing - I’d wager Ferrari’s simulator has no issues. It’s something that’s been a thing his entire career, and most of the older drivers for that matter. I don’t really know why he changed his approach ever since the GE era to incorporate it, and it seems now he’s reverting back to what he did in the past.
It is virtually impossible to create a race-able setup via a simulator unless the tyre physics in particular are perfect and the driver is used to the differences between the simulator and the real world.
Ultimately - F1 simulators are heavily modded versions of Asseto Corsa and/or rFactor. That’s all they are at their core.
It only translates into real life if you take that into account as well and adjust your parameters accordingly.
It’s why you see the elder drivers not using the sim at all for this purpose.
The simulator (the driver in loop one) only became sophisticated enough for this in the last 7 years or so.
No 30 year old with 22 years worth of experience setting up cars purely based on driver feel will ever find this useful compared to teenagers who drive simulators more than real cars.
I know Alonso only used the McLaren sim at most twice a year, Schumacher and Hamilton hardly ever used the Mercedes sim.
Less computer numbers and more humans often does do the trick.

@there_is_no_if True but Leclerc still got into the lead at the start and it was the inherent pace deficit of the Ferrari that ultimately cost him
If Ferrari want to win races/titles they have bigger fish to fry. Aduo is likely the answer

Congratulations, FIA has completely nerfed Ferrari's advantage on starts. Funny how some teams are allowed to keep their advantages for ages, yet others are dealt with almost instantly, despite announcing what they're doing a year in advance.
