LoP, and most soulslikes are just mimicries of the surface level of From's Souls games, without understanding what makes them work beneath the surface.
Hollow Knight fundamentally understands it, and is able to apply that to a 2D space.

@empyrealviolet This plus having Kale essentially just tell you exactly what it is you're seeing when you enter the area with all the dead merchants kinda takes away from the general horror of it. I think it's more effective when it's implied than when it is outright stated.

My take on this is the same as it was a few years ago which is that as emotionally resonant as this speech is, the Edgar/Hyetta questline is actually more interesting to me and better reflects what the Frenzied Flame represents in the world of Elden Ring.
