@RichardBurgon More economic drivel Even if you took 100% of this “wealth”, it runs the country for a matter of months What’s your master plan after that? Absolutely clueless and dangerous

New figures show British billionaire wealth is UP again. It’s more than DOUBLED since 2010. ▪️2010: £250bn ▪️2026: £670bn While millions struggle to get by, the billionaire class keeps taking more and more. Tax extreme wealth now!

@DamianLow3 Wow If only millions of us gave money to charity all the time without having to tell the world about it Of course the biggest concern for those of us who are charity trustees is declining giving as taxes soar So Burnham is going to be disastrous for charities

Burnham has donated 15% of his salary every year since becoming Greater Manchester Mayor. Farage took a £5 million gift and regularly talks the UK down when he goes to the US to suck up to Trump. Who do you think would serve the country better?

@TuckerClemens Or you could reduce taxes so people actually get to keep their wages instead of having them taken to reward the idle

Here's a radical idea for cutting the welfare budget, have big employers like Tesco pay their staff a living wage , so they don't have to claim benefits. Tax payers should not be subsidising Tesco and the like!
David__Osland@David__Osland

The boss of Tesco pays himself nearly eleven million quid a year while up to half his staff are so badly paid that they have to claim in-work benefits. Then politicians wonder why people are so pissed off these days.

@McardleTrevor Growth number is almost certain to be revised down as it has in every other recent Q1 report “Unemployment” is only falling because it only counts people looking for work. And as benefits are so lucrative now more and more people have stopped looking

@premnsikka So even if you steal all of this wealth with a 100% wealth tax….. it lasts literally months What’s your master plan then? Socialists. Always great with other people’s money….. until it runs out

Wealth of 157 UK billionaires now equals £670bn, 22% of GDP. Return on wealth (dividends and capital gains) is taxed at lower rates than wages. Extreme concentration of wealth facilitates political power, corruption, economic control. Wither democracy. theguardian.com/inequality/202…

@_lwalter_ Bring it on I think the real workers in the UK will be happy that the shirkers on benefits only get basics from the state Because right now they’re living better lives than we are - anything they want without having to ever lift a finger Working class? What a laugh.

@David__Osland Imagine how much more they’d take home if we hadn’t increased taxes to record levels Have you checked how much of their salary Tesco staff are prepared to put at risk linked to the company performance? Is it OK to put 70% of their salary in an at risk bonus?

@JohnSlinger @darrenpjones So the record number of civil servants we currently have don’t think their job is anything to do with delivery right now? Explains a lot But I really wouldn’t shout about

@Heccles94 Just checked the details of the journey your alleging The delays you’re claiming were actually caused by problems on state owned services and infrastructure So nice try blaming the private sector in your usual socialist rant Maybe you should stick to topics you understand?

Train was due to leave Southampton at 11:15 to get into Manchester at 3:30. It’s now 16:36 and I’m stuck in Birmingham, I’ve switched trains and had to buy a new ticket, but now this is held up too. Chaos. Years of profit extraction have done this.

@Heccles94 Important to remember that their primary function is to pay dividends to shareholders. The business of effectively moving people around the country is an expensive and tiresome distraction for them.

🔴 @AndyBurnhamGM on BBC today: “I think Britain has been on the wrong path for 40 years.” 👍 It started with de-industrialisation, bus deregulation, and the privatisation of life’s essentials. 👏 We need to… get the basics back under public control so that people can afford their rent, their energy bills, etc. 🙌 He wants Labour to “change and once again [be] the party that people in this borough knew… I don’t blame anybody who has gone away and voted for other parties. I want them to regain their trust… I want Labour solidly to become a working class community.”

@darrenpjones Wow. More bureaucracy. Groundbreaking. How many additional civil servants and management layers are you going to introduce? It’s pretty incredulous that the civil service is larger than ever before and yet delivery isn’t a part of it. Easy to see why our taxes are so high

Each department in government will now have its own delivery unit, led by a senior civil servant. And every Secretary of State and Minister of State will be given a new “delivery advisor” in their private office to support this work. These new delivery functions will be accountable to both their Secretary of State and to my team. This builds on my recent work setting up the new joint No10 and Cabinet Office Delivery Unit.
