@gauravsabnis A foodie who is a foodie because they eat biryanis and dosas. That’s a real foodie! 🤔

"I'm a foodie" as a reason to leave the US and move back to India is for me the surest sign that he made the right decision for himself and for the US. If you think American food is just PB&J & burgers, you'll be happiest back in your hometown. Not everyone can be an immigrant.

To understand modern India, we must understand the history of Hindutva. That history shaped these present times. Vinayak Chaturvedi joins me in episode 385 of The Seen and the Unseen to discuss his life as a historian — & his seminal book on Savarkar: seenunseen.in/episodes/2024/….

@gauravsabnis I remember telling my ‘colony’ friends in Mumbai that SL would win. I got called all sorts of names including the T word that ends in ist. When they won, it was apparently my ‘panvati’!

Anyone who remembers 1990s cricket vividly will remember that at least in subcontinent conditions, 1996 was a time when Sri Lanka could beat both India and Pakistan on most days. They just had their best players peaking as ours were declining. SL hasn't achieved that since.

Cricket World Cup memories over the years 1983 - so faint that I'm not sure if they are real or retrofitted, given I was barely 3 1987 - mostly clear. Clearest being I told my mom Sunny would score a century before going to school. His only ever ODI century. ❤️

@amitvarma @ajay_shah I appreciate the insights as always but I was left wondering about the romanticisation of the west, EU and NATO. There’s not just one bad actor at play here. Amit, I’d urge you to bring on a guest to examine the culpability of these forces in the rise of Russia as a bad actor.

The war in Ukraine seems distant — but it affects us all in countless unseen ways. @ajay_shah joins me in episode 335 of The Seen and the Unseen to deliver an in-depth masterclass: seenunseen.in/episodes/2023/… Essential listening!

Can you think of songs where the famous original artist is not the most associated with it in the public mind. Like man who sold the world is linked more to nirvana than Bowie. Nothing compares to Sinead than Prince. I will always to Whitney Houston than Dolly Parton.

There's an adult conversation to be had about our public broadcaster, but CBC is not the enemy of Canadians, and it's not state media. To say otherwise says more about you than it says about the CBC. thestar.com/opinion/star-c…

🔷  No Cool-Down After each run, I’d go right back to sitting on the couch. • No stretching • No breath-work • No transition period Cooling down helps your body temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate return to normal levels. Prepare your body for recovery.

@TTCnotices I took the eastbound from Ossington back to union to take the Go to get to Kipling. Stampede like situation at Ossington and utter confusion and lack of direction. Ridiculous service. Waited an hour for shuttle bus in the freezing cold. @TTCnotices

Heartbreaking to see this visual. So many happy memories of Rang Bhavan. Many Indy Rocks, Jethro Tull, Zakir Hussain, and so much else over the years. It is now a symbol of everything that is wrong with and rotten about the country and its laws.

Managed to snag a lone copy of Nina’s Journey from the Toronto Public Library system. Timely and topical. Thanks @Schandillia and @amitvarma. Show notes are helping me rebuild a library in a far away land.
