@rugbyphilosophy Always hate it. I think the problem here in South Africa specifically is a lot of the fans are causal watchers, pretty crappy reasoning but I assume that’s why they don’t understand the whole respect in rugby thing with regards to injuries and the kicker
English

I’m going to break my own commitment to only posting positive content this year just to point out that I remember a while back South Africa were pretty heavily criticised for playing music while an Irish player was injured…
Yet tonight we were singing Sweet Caroline and Robbie Williams while the Italian player was being attended to. Maybe I’m a grumpy old git, but it just feels wrong.
The crowd is there to watch rugby, surely they can chill for 5 minutes while someone gets stretchered off? I dunno… 🤷♂️

English

@420fpl Personally, I would love to see more GKs take pens in the shootout. GK v GK is max mind games.
English

@WeichAndre @ChalynRugby Actually the railway you’re talking about has been in use since last year and you’d be really surprised at the demographic that uses it
English

South Africa does not have the same 'bums on seats' culture that we have. Ellis Park (Jo'burg) in particular, has played to less than 10,000 spectators for Super Ruby for decades.
I attended two matches there, a 1976 Test (sell out) when the area was still safe and again in the early 90s. where my car got broken into.
Since then, I believe the area has gone to shit, with a social decline along with the adjacent CBD and Hillbrow precincts. Ellis Park actually (has or had) a railway stop right at the stadium, but I don't think any non-black still uses the trains.
English

@ChalynRugby Agree with you there Chalyn but I’m not too sure it’s the French pushing that narrative. And who’s to say their “A” team weren’t going to get exposed by Rennie.
English

I am so fed up with this “French B team” narrative.
It was that close. Our B team. “A” team would have dismantle All blacks etc. Fine. Bring your A team.we’ll bring our A game too, and we’ll see how it goes.
Bro, you haven’t won in New Zealand since 2009. Bring your full-strength side first, then we’ll have that conversation.
We only can play what’s infront of us. And if losing a game for your country is that simple, we can’t do anything about it.
It’s crazy to think that a country whose biggest achievement in rugby history is winning the Six Nations can talk this much.
Grow up.

@Makuroane @Simonbaker24 @PatriotMarc It’s actually our religious duty to provide and give to the needy
English

@Simonbaker24 @PatriotMarc That’s their strategy they using to get power unfortunately not out of good will.

Whilst watching 🇨🇩 DR Congo in football note also there is a bunch of Congolese heritage pro rugby players. Tambwe, Tshituka brothers, Kpoku brothers, Kasende, Tshiunza, & more young ones in France like Ibsaiene, Senga, Tshimanga, Okuya, Kitwanga. A pity not full WR members so don't even have a World Ranking. There must be so much wonderfully entertaining talent in some parts of West/Central Africa that rugby just cannot reach.

@JYHYCN @ChalynRugby Doubt he’d chuck the CEO under if he was making it up
English

Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus has revealed he would have liked to cap Benhard Janse van Rensburg, but was blocked by South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) bosses.
“If I tell the honest truth with him (Janse van Rensburg), and I hope I don’t drop anybody in it by saying this, we had conversations with him and he was very keen to come,” said the head coach.
“But then my CEO asked me a way back, ‘are you interested in Benhard Janse van Rensburg?’ and I said ‘yes, obviously we are, but we just want to see in our pecking order where he will get time’.”
“And then he asked, ‘are you going to try and cap him this year?’ and I said, ‘No, I don’t think so”
“Then, we wanted to (play him) in June and give him a chance, because we were thin at centre and we had the Barbarians game and South Africa A game.”
“Then, when I phoned the CEO, he said ‘No, you can’t, you promised me. I already committed to England and to World Rugby that we won’t go that route”
“We were looking at him, and we wanted to cap him, but because of a promise I made to the CEO and one he made to World Rugby, we didn’t pursue it.”
Interesting comments from the Springboks boss Ahead of their clash against England 👀

@GreggMac11 Arendse is going to have to be superb in the England game. Edwil is really pushing
English

With the number of quality younger players pushing for Bok places, the older/experienced heads are going to have to keep their level right at the top or they will be displaced.
It’s great for Bok rugby that competition is so intense. Take Jasper for example, he has Hanekom breathing down his neck. Kolbe/Arendse have Edwill VDM, Williams, Jooste, Hooker etc
Just a few examples but it’s almost across the board
English

@phunkydeep @HeTalksRugby As a bok fan it definitely does. We’ve seen at eden park as well. We can’t go in with over confidence, esp not against this English side
English

@HeTalksRugby These synthetic reasons just doesn’t work against this current Bok team. I’d argue that it harms confidence more than anything.
Example: Every rugby team in the world knows what the boks’ strength is … but there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it
It is what it is
English

Springboks team out … & of course Rassie gets his in first👀
Everyone already acting like this is a foregone conclusion. “Too strong”, “too scary”, “double world champs”… same script every time.
Reality is: yes, they’re stacked, but they’ve also got a few injuries & being favourites at home brings its own kind of pressure. Home advantage only means something if you impose yourself early.
If I’m England, I’d actually love this. No one outside the camp really giving them a chance, which is exactly the kind of Test where teams can flip the script. Nothing to lose, perfect setup to go & cause problems.
Borthwick’s side just needs to front up, stay in the fight & play with the same freedom & physicality we saw in Paris.
Double World Champions at Ellis Park?… This is exactly the type of game where reputations get tested.
Saturday can’t come quick enough.
Bring it! 🏉🔥

RO32 : 🇫🇷 France v Sweden 🇸🇪
10pm (UK) Live on ITV
WC Favourites France take on a Sweden side in transition & this point in the WC is probably the expectation given where they were in Qualifying.
France
Expect them to continue with their 4-2-3-1:
GK Maignan
RB Kounde
RCB Upamecano
LCB Saliba
LB Hernandez
CM Tchouanemi 🅰️🟨
CM Rabiot🅰️
RW Dembele⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️🅰️
CAM Olise🅰️🅰️🅰️
LW Doue⚽️
CF Mbappe⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️🅰️🅰️
Potential Success:
> Wing-Play 1v1 & Crosses into Box
> 1v1 Wingers to Shoot
> Central Combinations
Key Concern:
> Defending Counters with Swedens Speed
Sweden
Expect them to continue with their 5-2-3/5-3-2
GK Zetterstorm
RWB Bernhardsson
RCB Lagerbielke
CB Lindelof
LCB Gudmundsson🟨
LWB Stroud
CM Karlstrom
CM Ayari⚽️⚽️🟨
RW Elanga⚽️⚽️
CF Gyokeres⚽️🅰️🅰️🟨
LW Isak⚽️⚽️🅰️🅰️
Potential Success:
> Wing-Play 1v1 & Crosses into Box
> 1v1 Wingers to Shoot
> Counters from Low-Block
Key Concern:
> Defending 1v1 & Wingers Moving Inside
Final Thoughts:
I think France will be good enough but Sweden on the counter with quality up-front poses a real test.
English

@PlanetRugby I think borthwick knows the last 20 minutes of the game will be fast paced and decisive (we can see rassie’s team selection also tells us that) so having pollock come of the bench would be the best bet for him
English

@thepaulwilliams My son on a France tour saw them play at home and said it was just the best experience. Is it okay to be jealous of your own son lol!
English

@RugbyBits 1. All blacks- they haven’t been at the best and hit a pretty low point but they have a bit of stability that’ll get them back to their best
2. SA, AB, Eng then France
3. I’ll take England and SA there
English

As we set our focus squarely on the Springboks and being just over a year away from #RWC2027 lets ask some questions.
1: Which team will show the most growth from now until then and why?
2: Who are the contenders?
3: Coaching/tactics aside, who can name the best squads?
