From 1,000 kids paralyzed every day in the 1980s, polio cases have declined by 99.9%. But we can’t stop here. We need to reaffirm our commitment, make sure life-saving vaccines reach the last mile, and finally make polio a disease of the past. #WorldImmunizationWeek

Around the world, determined health workers on the frontline – like Bridgith in Ecuador, Mahmoud in Sudan and Prisca in Tanzania – deliver vaccines to children in some of the hardest-to-reach places. Read their stories: unicef.link/3PT44op

Vaccines are one of the greatest medical inventions of all time. They've saved 154 million lives in the last 50 years alone. That’s one life saved every 10 seconds. But it’s up to us to make sure every child, no matter where they live, is protected. #WorldImmunizationWeek

Thanks to international partnership and U.S. leadership, we’ve made huge progress against polio. Last year, there were just 39 cases of wild polio worldwide. But we can’t risk a comeback.   Ask YOUR Senators to commit to polio eradication today: bit.ly/senate-polio-27.

Just 3 weeks left until World Immunization Week (#WIW). For over 200 years, vaccines have protected generation after generation—to the point that many diseases families once feared are now rarely seen in most of the world. Let's keep up that effort.

The WHO puts it plainly: delaying climate action undermines decades of public health progress.  In Mexico, for example, 80% of the population is at health risk from weather. We can't achieve global immunization goals on a destabilized planet. Climate action = health action.

This #WorldTBDay, we are close to the first tuberculosis (TB) vaccine in more than a century. TB may seem like a disease of the past, but it remains a leading infectious cause of death worldwide. Keep watching for a timeline of humanity's oldest and deadliest disease.

2/ Vaccines only work if they can be administered. This delivery is a breakthrough; somewhere in Sudan this month, a child received a measles vaccine for the first time in nearly three years.

1/ South Kordofan, Sudan, hadn't received vaccines in nearly three years. Not because the vaccines don't exist, but because a siege blocked them. This month, 18 metric tons finally got through, and nearly 25,000 children will be given lifesaving vaccines this year.

Cervical cancer is a vaccine access problem. In a major development, India is joining the 160 other countries that are taking action against it—free HPV vaccines for adolescent girls, nationwide. When political will meets public health evidence, lives are saved.

Polio isn't fully gone yet, and when outbreaks occur, we need to respond fast. This latest prequalification helps make that possible by adding a new manufacturer to the global supply chain—more backup, less risk of shortages, faster protection for kids when it matters most.

@WHO updated the flu vaccine to match a rapidly spreading variant. After 4 days of intense consultation, the new composition was finalized—helping countries prepare with the best possible protection. When viruses evolve quickly, evidence-based action matters. And WHO delivered.

Next-generation flu vaccines could prevent 18B cases and save 6.2M lives by 2050 while also fighting AMR. Current flu vaccines work—but protection only lasts one season. 46 next-gen vaccine candidates are already in clinical development for longer-lasting, effective protection.

1/ #DYK fewer than 20 viral particles can be enough to spread norovirus? At the 2026 Winter Olympics, that meant postponed games, team quarantines, and athletes missing the opening ceremony. Mass gatherings remind us how quickly illness can travel across a village or a venue.

In 2024, 120 million people were displaced. And a new WHO report has confirmed what we already know: immunization coverage collapses in crisis settings. Our #HealthyStart for Refugee Children initiative is working to change that. Get involved today at shotatlife.org/healthystart

A few drops on the tongue can prevent a child from being paralyzed for life. I was honored to help this happen for a young child named Kevin during a recent trip to Togo. Thanks to @UNICEFAfrica and @WHOAFRO for their continued efforts to ensure every child has a @ShotatLife.
Better World Campaign@BetterWorldOrg

Every child deserves a healthy start, no matter where they live. Hear Better World Campaign President @PeterMYeo discuss why the frontline work of @UNICEF and @WHO providing polio vaccinations in Togo is essential to ensure that every child, everywhere has a @shotatlife.
