@SGTWipper1Each 13hrs straight through to Chicago from northeast PA. Stopped for gas and bathroom breaks. Wasn't too horrible. Then again, that was 15-20 years ago when I was much younger and more resilient. 😄

Mike Score (Flock of Seagulls) weird haircut was a complete accident.
He was a professional hairdresser. He was going for a standard puffy 80's haircut, and was working on it in the mirror.
Bassist Frank Maudsley was also working on his hair, and nudged Mike out of the way, and accidentally smooshed the top of his hair down.
Mike thought it looked super weird and cool so he just left it, and it became iconic.
You should listen to their music, especially their debut 1982 album. It's really good, and stands up well ~45 years later.

Can confirm that I've been seeing more and more videos lately that randomly switch from 4k or 1440p to 1080 or even 720 while I'm watching them. This is despite using a 3840x1600 monitor on my PC that also uses a fully wired 1G fiber connection.
Seems to occur more often on longer videos that might be considered "2nd monitor" content like podcasts. Also more often on gaming specific channels that post game tutorials and reviews.
Watching content on my tablet with it's 1440p screen often defaults to 480, 720 or 1080. If I choose a specific resolution, it only applies to the current video.
I assumed all this bs was to save the multi-billion dollar company a few cents on bandwidth. Seems like they are exploring even more ways to make the user experience worse. Fucking wonderful. 😡
English

@GamersNexus They've been doing all sorts of bandwidth reducing bullshit. More enshitification. I had a video at 1080p that had insanely bad compression artifacts. Also the issue you talked about where it was causing shimmering and obvious color changes to a surface, etc.
English

Some viewers have commented to say they feel like YouTube is adding post-processing to our videos now, like some sort of 'DLSS' style processing. Can anyone confirm if you're seeing this? If so, screenshots would be great. I'm not getting it yet. One viewer claimed YT post processing was shading my gray hairs back to brown which, while I'm flattered, is not reality and not a filter we apply to videos. I've seen it in YT Shorts before where it blasts the contrast, but not in 'normal' videos yet.
English

@CWLemoine Good thing you guys use piddle packs and not just pee in a bottle. That could have changed the outcome of this video drastically. 😄

I had no idea who you were until after I posted a reply. Now that I see who you work for, I'm sad that your bullshit post came across my feed. People like you and your employer are the ones leading us all into financial enslavement with your endless subscriptions.
If it comes down to it, I'll game at 10fps until I die before I ever give you a penny for your cloud gaming "future".
English

"Gaming" is only about half of what I use a PC for. Hence why I built it rather than just buying a console that's only good for one thing.
Ffs, do you not realize how much more expensive it is in the long run to sub to cloud gaming? I can reliably run my PC for a decade or more with no major upgrades. The money cost for cloud gaming could pay to build a couple PCs in that amount of time. Why would I pay more to never own the hardware while also having a worse gaming experience, plus be restricted to using it for gaming only?
Also, you can't just toss the philosophical arguments aside. They're the main problem with marching the world towards eternal subscriptions. The more people that sign onto this crap, the faster the enshitification of the world accelerates.
English

you’ll get mad at me for saying this…but cloud gaming is so obviously more economically efficient than physical hardware I think it’s going to be the default soon.
your home console / pc is idle 90%+ of the day. meanwhile, data centers targets what, 5%, maybe at worst 10% idle.
every second a cloud gamer isn’t gaming, that hardware is being used for someone else, training, etc.
I think there should be a new measurement, something like cost-per effective FLOP hour that takes into account the TCO + effective utilization.
If a gamer spends $500 on a GPU, uses it for 3 years, but it’s only fully active ~5% of that period…the cost-per relative FLOP hour is crazy high! Meanwhile, a $50,000 datacenter GPU might have a *LOWER* cost-per FLOP hour just because the effective utilization is 90+%.

@AzzyDesignWorks @jimbelosic Ngl, it's kind of gone to shit in the past decade.

@RealMamaluke @GamersNexus @Lenovo God forbid someone with an audience shine a light on the bullshit companies pull. Wouldn't want to try to improve things for consumers everywhere, now would we? Ffs. 🤦🏼♂️
English

@GamersNexus @Lenovo GN really are just whiny and angry these days, aren’t they.
English

Hey @Lenovo can you please process my return of your broken, piece of shit laptop that shipped dysfunctional out of the box and ask your support staff to stop violating your own policies and possibly US law? This email thread is driving me crazy.
English

@leemerie3d A blob isn't something I've had yet. Spaghetti messes, sure. Clogged nozzles, warped prints, filament jams... check. Hoping me and the blob monster never meet.
English

Good to hear it's working already. 😁
Once you have your first layer cal done for a particular print sheet type and nozzle size, you should only have to monitor the first layer during subsequent prints and adjust on the fly. It usually holds pretty close. Even with my Revo hotend and frequently switching nozzles, I only need to make minor adjustments here and there.
One thing I use to adjust Z on the fly is leaving the "skirt" feature in Prusaslicer enabled for one layer. This prints a border around the print area before starting to print the model. It gives me a chance to check the Z adjustment. I know you use Orca. I'm not sure if it has that feature available, but if it does, it's worth enabling for one layer in my opinion just to check Z height. The one downside is if you're printing something using the whole X/Y build volume, it'll throw an error because the skirt will be out of bounds.

I hate asking for help, so this is a little outside my comfort zone.
Five years ago, Cultivated Laser started with a laser engraver, a handful of ideas, and a stubborn refusal to get a real job. Since then, we've shipped thousands of orders, built an incredible community, and somehow turned this weird little project into a real business.
This week, our offer was accepted on a 2,300 sq ft commercial building that would become the permanent home of Cultivated Laser.
The new space would allow us to expand manufacturing, add more 3D printers, improve production, pursue our FFL, offer full firearm and NFA engraving, and provide firearm transfers—services people have been asking us to offer for years.
We're working with a bank on financing, but we're also raising funds to help cover the down payment, closing costs, and the mountain of expenses that come with moving a business into its first permanent home.
If Cultivated Laser has ever made you laugh, decorated your gear, filled your mailbox with patches, or simply been something you've enjoyed following over the years, I'd appreciate you taking a look.
Whether you contribute, share it, or just continue supporting the business like you always have, thank you. None of this exists without you.
We are doing a Give Send Go with a ton of perks, check it out here:
