"I Did It to Gain Followers Like Peller" – TikToker Who Faked Bandit Attack in Ogun Now Faces Prosecution A 23-year-old tailor and TikTok user, Kowiu Oloyede, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for fabricating a bandit attack in Atan Ota to gain social media followers. His false alarm caused panic and widespread hysteria before the police tracked him down. On Monday, May 23, 2026, Oloyede recorded a distress video claiming bandits were attacking Atan Ota and posted it on TikTok. His follower count jumped from 60 to over 1,000 within hours. Encouraged by the sudden attention, he attempted a second staged video, this time trying to convince a Fulani cattle rearer to participate in a fake kidnapping scene. The Fulani man refused. The boy's brother recorded him kneeling and pretending to beg a kidnapper for freedom. He posted that video as well but quickly deleted it after realising the gravity of his actions. The first video had already gone viral. Police operatives arrested him hours later. The case is now being handled at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta. He is expected to face prosecution. This is a warning: raising false alarms for clout is a crime. It endangers lives, creates chaos, and carries serious legal consequences. Great work by the Ogun State Police Command.
