Amazon (including AWS) was not all that long ago, a good and innovative company that I think actually did (for a TeraCorp, anyway) try to honor and respect customers, partners and employees. That all began to change a few years ago, and the transition to an Indian/Harvard MBA run hellhole is now complete. Amazon/AWS is now nearly as evil as Microsoft or Google, but even more dangerous because this shift has happened in only a few years underneath the company that two thirds of the Internet runs on! Bring back Bezos. Seriously.

Amazon just confirmed 16,000 layoffs but sources inside are telling me the real story is so much worse Word from three different VPs: the 16K number is just "Phase One" - internal docs show another 14,000 cuts planned for Q2 A director in AWS walked me through their new "efficiency matrix" - entire teams being replaced by 2-3 senior engineers running Claude Sonnet workflows The Alexa division got completely hollowed out. 847 engineers two months ago. 23 remaining after this week. All hardware development moved to a Bangalore team of 31 contractors with Cursor access Here's the sick part: they're making the outgoing engineers document their entire decision-making process into "knowledge transfer sessions" that are being recorded and fed directly into training datasets One L7 told me he spent his final two weeks creating detailed prompt libraries and workflow documentation. Thought he was being helpful for the transition Turns out he was literally training the AI agent that replaced his entire org The contractors offshore are using his exact prompts and shipping features 40% faster than his old team of 12 Americans ever did Internal Slack shows leadership celebrating "operational excellence" while badges get deactivated in real-time They're calling it "right-sizing for the AI era" in the all-hands But the P&L sheets I'm seeing show $280M in salary savings this quarter alone The knowledge extraction is complete If you're still at Amazon and haven't started job hunting, you're already dead

I grew up reading Byomkesh Bakshi and Feluda: two legendary Bengali detective series that almost no one outside India knows. Now all ~70 novels are translated to English and free to read on grandoldbooks.com. My goal: build the world’s internet library. Every great book, in English, free forever. We shipped 10x more books in the last 48 hrs. Follow @grandoldbooks for more.

wow Anthropic just published a crazy report on AI replacing your job and er... you might want to look at this: - #1 most at-risk jobs are computer programmers, financial analysts (rip excel bros) and customer service - most at-risk workers are female, white, older and higher paid. - BUT high-risk jobs *aren't* firing employees... they've STOPPED HIRING. biggest victims: college graduates (4X more likely to be fucked) - entry-level hiring has dropped 14% since chatgpt launched (for highest risk jobs) - SAFEST jobs are... bartenders, dishwashers and lifeguards - any manual labour that AI can't automate (yet) this accounts for 30% of the job market. - this was the scariest part: AI models are capable of automating most work TODAY but are prevented because of law and slow company adoption. so its not even a fucking skill issue its an ADOPTION issue. - now its important to understand that the study is based on real world data but also 'theoretical' intelligence. so take it with a pinch of salt. some jobs (manual labor) didn't even meet min. data reqs i applaud anthropic on being so damn transparent - they're literally the company behind claude who will be responsible for these impacts studies like this will help us figure it the hell out. LOT of change coming this year.

Data Engineering is currently 20% building and 80% apologizing for things someone else broke. If you’re a CTO and your data team spends all day "cleaning," you don’t have a data problem. You have an organizational culture problem. thetechnicaltldr.substack.com/p/fundamentals…

@JaiHe I would agree with mild propoganda, but why is it mediocre. Is one of the best storytelling in last few years. Hooe you have seen it before commenting.

Eventually everyone will realise that Dhurandhar is a mediocre propaganda movie by a mediocre director. Collections don’t define the quality ipso facto . Remember a c-grade propaganda film of Vivek Agnihotri earned more than 200 crores ?
