the locally-owned servo i lived by growing up had chips like this and they were SO good, I knew people who would drive from like half an hour away just to have their chips. during the 2020 lockdowns they got bought out by a corporate entity and now they have below-average chips

my favourite instance of this so far has been during freeplay where I got a song that started with a synth blast and I was like
"sounds like a fart. probably giga"
so i picked the first giga song i didn't recognise and it was the right answer

one example of performative behavior i've noticed for years is where when a piece of japanese media has a very widely used localized name in english some fans of it will insist on using the japanese name anyway for some reason. very "place, japan" vibes

こういうことを言う人は多分言葉の印象にあまり意識してないと思う

海外のオタクが絵に残すコメント、 直訳すると全部ヤバい 「Delete this」 → 消してくれ （本当の意味：良すぎて正気を保てない。俺がおかしくなる前に消してくれ） 「You're so sick for this」 → お前病気だろ （本当の意味：こんなの描けるのどうかしてる、という最大級の称賛） 「I'm unwell」 → 体調悪くなったわ （本当の意味：この絵で感情揺さぶられすぎて情緒崩壊した😇） 「Block yourself」 → 自分をブロックしてもろて （本当の意味：才能ありすぎて存在がしんどい。俺がおかしくならないよう自重してくれ🙏） 「Why would you do this to me」 → なぜ俺にこんな仕打ちを… （本当の意味：なんでこんなに良いもの描けるんですか） 直訳するとクレーマーだから 初めてこういうコメントが来たらビックリすると思うけど、 全部褒め言葉だったりするから紛らわしいね🫠 こっちでいうところの 「待ってむりしぬ」的な表現だと思う これは初見でわからなくてもしょうがない
