@TheDevilsDNA @Zanagala @pranav_m28 If we're having Mainoo/Tielemens as competition/rotation, and Santos is also more of a passer/progressor who can only pair with Mainoo situationally, feels like this puts a lot of pressure on getting the 3rd midfield signing right in terms of athleticism/ground coverage

My thoughts on Tielemans. For the price & what it means for Carrick's vision to keep the ball & progress centrally I'm excited. I don't think he's as technically well rounded as people think, esp deeper or when under pressure. Mainoo rotation makes sense. Peak partner DM key now.

@iamgaurav_92 @TheDevilsDNA Yeah hence question of how far he can take us. Either way, getting transfers right is crucial. Short term, Carrick is good at platforming players so should be good to target top 4+cup run (maybe even win). If/When he hits ceiling, having a great squad = great base for next boss.

@sid4695 @TheDevilsDNA Guardiola, Klopp, Arteta, Enrique, all of them are known to improve their players and be master tacticians whilst obviously being provided with top quality players in the market Carrick imo doesn't satisfy either of those 2 criteria.

Top 4 again with improved gameplay & underlying metrics & go fairly deep (QF UCL, semis others) in cups. IMO we overperformed with him, esp with 1 game a week. Getting similar results in full season with better control is good enough. 27/28 should be the title aiming one.

@TheDevilsDNA Incredible that Carreras might be possible because Real have signed Cucurella. We had him on our books and let him go for practically nothing without ever even giving him a chance. Same for Garner - would have been a great option in this squad. Just needless waste on our part.

Was thinking that if the Hall deal doesn't work out or is overly priced, can we try smart deals for Carreras, Grimaldo or Fran Garcia? They all seem to be available for cheap for various reasons but have proven their quality in the past. Truffert good option too if not overpriced
HM@_areyoushaw

@TheDevilsDNA If Hall isn’t possible, who would be an adequate alternative? I agree with your line of thinking of a marquee winger next summer ala Vinicius or someone of that ilk. Keep the powder dry. I do think if we do grab a cheaper LW, our starter LW ceiling is Cunha..

@TheDevilsDNA Casemiro in his interview with Rio compared Carrick to Ancelotti in terms of knowing how to communicate with the players and keeping everyone on the same page etc. Might be worth having him as figurehead + add coaching staff. Like Bayern have done with Kompany + Maric/Danks etc.

For me the pressure on INEOS recruitment has reached maximum after some poor Windows and leaving the squad terribly weak in midfield & also lacking in defence & attack. I'm really hoping against hope that we're going to have a very different window from the last few. Big hoping.

Good call. He's earned it & "known devil is better" considering the many risks of someone new having to come in, settle & adjust with a clearly mish-mash squad. Focus on recruitment. Nail the gaps & problem areas. Take manager call after 1-2 years depending on Carrick improvement

@dharnishiqbal When Carrick got appointed, Jason WIlcox apparently told the squad that Champions League qualification was the goal. Quite the difference from the more vague 'qualify for Europe' that Amorim would often reference. There was clearly a feeling the squad had underused quality.

Genuinely think Amorim in press conferences brain-washed portions of the fanbase. Every time he spoke in the media (he made sure he was in the media alot) all he did was speak about how tough everything was and bring expectations down because he knew he wasn’t ready for the job

@TheDevilsDNA What do you think of Carrick so far? If he gets the job full time (as looks likely), do you think he's a good choice to at least get United to be Champions League regulars (squad building permitting of course)? If not, who would you go for assuming Nagelsmann is not available.

@MattPolProf Also Tarkovsky's Solaris and Stalker are both adaptations of books. Kurosawa's Ran is adapted from King Lear. Throne of Blood is Macbeth. (Both not technically books and not completely faithful adaptations I guess). Plus, obviously Jurassic Park for a more mainstream pick.

@TheDevilsDNA @Yh_Im_Different Feel like Mainoo and Bruno is just a difficult pair to find a third for. Lots of top players (Wharton, Baleba, Tonali) that United are linked with don't completely fit either because of lack of physicality, ground coverage, deep passing etc.

@Yh_Im_Different It's based on many games tho. This was the first time they played together so there was direct reference. Else I've been saying their traits overlap for a while. Anderson plays beside Sangare and Mainoo would also be ideal playing beside such a player (Casemiro this year).

@mukumoya No. Disagree with this thought process. This is the kind of thinking that has led to us building teams with random quality spread around but always having profile and position gaps. Plug the gaps, cover the missing traits, don't buy what you already have. That's team building.

I really like Carrick. I think a lot of Premier League clubs should have been in for him to build something long term. He is a better coach than Solskjaer and would definitely leave behind a more coherent foundation for the next manager, even if he does not continue after the interim period. On a tactical level, he uses a 3-2-5 in possession, which is formed by one full-back joining the front line and the other acting as the third center-back from a 4-2-3-1 base structure. United fans who want fast, aggressive football with direct transitions, the so-called “United DNA,” are likely to be disappointed. Carrick’s approach is even more methodical than Amorim’s. His Middlesbrough side were one of the most patient and lowest-tempo teams in possession, which is a positive and should allow United to pin opponents back and control territory, something they have struggled with severely. Out of possession, it is almost always a 4-4-2 zonal block, combined with a high press that Carrick adjusts based on the opposition. You can also expect one of the wingers to drop into the back line situationally to create a back five when the team is in a low block. Carrick has all the foundations of what is considered a modern elite coach. I see him doing well as long as the expectations are realistic, which should be consistent performances and qualification for Europe.

Sacking Cooper at this stage of the season only makes sense if the successor is capable of taking Leicester to the next level. The best option is to go for Michael Carrick. He is capable of taking the club back to fighting in the top half and can build something big if given the time and resources. Tactically, his game model is scalable and reminiscent of the top coaches. Going for a safe choice will lead to the same cycle again once the club inevitably stagnates in a couple of seasons.

@TheDevilsDNA @vybhavbadri I feel like he should try to get Heaven into that left side some how. Not sure playing him LB (if he wants Maguire as LCB) is a great fit offensively or the best fit for him generally, but he's quick and diligent defensively

Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw I'm worried about that as a left flank in a back 4. They are short, and not the swiftest across the ground, not particularly leggy. Great on the ball, but dicey off it. You will see goals from there regularly.
Vybhav Badri@vybhavbadri

Ole was another pressing/fast play coach, just like Amorim. I don't think people realise just how dire the midfield and centre back situation is, especially in a back 4. We have no pairing with the all requisite skill set in the back 4, the midfield is dire in terms of legs.

This cultural “DNA” idea is unwise when hiring managers. Coaching quality should take precedence, nothing else. Arteta is very different to Wenger, who laid down the culture for Arsenal. Wenger himself was very different to the Arsenal “culture” when he was hired. These appointments were against the “DNA”, even the recent Conte appointment from Napoli and countless other examples. None of these appointments would happen if cultural fits were given precedence over coaching quality. It is completely illogical to talk like that. Chelsea’s apparent “DNA” is mid block and attacking directly; it is obvious to any half-decent professional that you can’t compete for a major league in that manner anymore. The focus should only be: can the manager’s game model/approach scale to the objectives of the club, short and long term; can he execute it on a consistent basis; and does he have the social competence for it.
Kannan Ahmed@thewittyjack

Absolutely, it's a ridiculous standard, total inefficiency masqueraded as "fit". if cultural and tactical took precedence over pure coaching quality, Arsenal wouldn't have hired Arsene Wenger. Milan wouldn't have hired Arrigo Sacchi, either.
