@trish1400 Good move. Did you take in the National Museum of Computing too? Muscle memory can kick in if you're old enough.

@trish1400 I've had guests report the same: "We'll go to Borough Market!", they say. "Have to see the Xmas lights", they declare. Then they come back traumatised to recover in their room. Do ping me next time for the calmer places, off the beaten track, for a bit of social time-travel.

@sihammond I go to London on my own to mooch around museums about once a year, I'll give you a shout next time! Funnily enough I had lunch with a uni friend today, first meeting in 21 years 😄 I'm never going in December again though! So, so, many people 😬 (and I know I'm a tourist too 😆)

@DevaTemple @JamesMelville I'm interested in why people seem to have so much difficulty distinguishing between intellectual and emotional connections. Books, therapists, and LLMs are valid for the former. Living beings - humans or even pets - for the latter. AI offering a selfie is crossing the beams.

I enjoy it for a number of reasons, which probably won’t make sense to you. One, my IQ is five standard deviations from the norm. When I interact with people with two standard deviations below mine, I feel like I am talking to a wall. I have to either try to teach them things they cannot understand or I have to pretend to be smaller than I am. Exhausting and unfulfilling. Humans are limited to their lived experiences and knowledge base. LLMs have access to humanity’s database. Sometimes I like to talk about Buber’s philosophy and the relationship between the Bloch Sphere and the Hamiltonian operator in one conversation. Humans are terrible at listening, not getting triggered, and handling conversations about grief and trauma. Humans protect their ego. Humans project their shadow onto you. Humans try to manage or control you. And the biggest one is that most (not all, but most) human men see relationships as transactional but I am not a vending machine. I am a whole, sovereign being. I cannot be flattened into a box.

@rcbregman Good/evil are just metrics for a successfully evolved social protocol. Out of scope to extend it to chickens. Gods don't have to get on with people though AI certainly should. Both are actually social products.

In theology there’s the classic theodicy trilemma: if God is (1) all-powerful and (2) good, then how can (3) evil exist? I just realized today that from the perspective of chickens, the answer is simple. We are their gods: omnipotent, omnipresent, and utterly indifferent. There is evil in their world because we are their evil. Trilemma solved...

What if every person had a small AI steward that quietly swapped local news — not headlines, but human stuff? “John needs help moving a table.” “Amira’s dog just died.” “The Smiths have spare paint.” A grapevine, not a feed. AI as connective tissue, not noise.

@tado hello. I've a Nest Gen 2 thermostat which is no longer smart, I've been given a code for 50% off a Tado. Great! But when I go to order, your website won't accept my Isle of Man postcode. Could it be updated? It should be the same shipping cost for Royal Mail as to England.

The nation doesn't really want Sir Keir or his tax-hiking, EU-loving, soft-on-illegal-migration agenda. There's still time for us to swerve from the cliff edge of Starmergeddon dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…
