The Marner discourse is hilarious. When he was a Leaf, rival fans made sure to tell everyone Marner was a choker and sucked, now they’re telling us he’s always been amazing and the Leafs shouldn’t have let him go. News flash he left as a free agent.

Everyone is calling this draft a Matthews/Laine draft. I feel like its more of a McDavid/Eichel draft.(not that McKenna is McDavid) What I mean is, both could and would be 1st overall picks most years, but this year McKenna is a bit better

It’s not even close to the same. The Matthews and Laine one was much closer than what this draft is. This is one of the strongest drafts we’ve seen since the McDavid draft. What McKenna was doing in the W - if he would have stayed - nobody would be able to say anything. Went to the NCAA because he wanted to be challenged and still succeed expectations. This kid was getting slotted in with top 5 picks at 14 years old.

Not to play devils advocate on Marner’s success but Utah and Anaheim aren’t even in the same stratosphere of toughness as Boston and Florida who Marner really struggled against.

@JW_eats_plastic @FullyAlexD @TOSportsAdam They weren’t intended to be reasons for them losing. They are examples of $11M+ Marner crumbling when his feet were held to the fire. In a close elimination game, a few points and some effort would go a lot farther than sewering the team with a trash giveaway or stupid penalty.

@simmerdown_tml @FullyAlexD @TOSportsAdam yeah, i think those are all invented reasons for them losing. they lost those series because their blue line was atrocious and teams knew how to abuse it. the blue line was atrocious because mgmt did a bad job building it and hired coaches who couldn’t fix it.

So Marner is capable of performing in the playoffs but Leafs fans are the bad guys for asking our star forward to do this?
