@CorsiHL That’s some amazing twisting. In the full Matthews era only one team went on to win the cup that year and it was Florida last year. They lost to “92” point Panthers in 5 games in 2023.

Mitch Marner’s last six playoff opponents in Toronto averaged 101 regular season points. Faced two eventual Cup winners in four seasons. His two opponents this year each had 92 regular season points. He just torched the -15 goal, 26 regulation win Ducks. This isn’t very hard

@CorsiHL It may not be hard, but you Leafs fans sure deserve a lot of credit for creativity. This is now my favourite tweet and it supersedes the one “he didn’t score any goals in games 5,6 and 7”, as if games 1 thru 4 don’t matter. Please keep coming up with new bullshit to entertain us

It’s absolutely wild watching the free speech absolutists lose their minds over a sketch comedy show that committed the unforgivable sin of… Letting someone speak their own views with their full chests. Allegedly. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

If progressive activists want to make partisan Borat-style mockumentaries, they are free to do so with their own resources. However, it’s obviously inappropriate for a public broadcaster to support/fund this work. If you can’t understand this distinction, then you’re retarded.
Chris Berthelot 🇨🇦@DebatingChris

@AdamZivo Oh my fuck, please stop with this whining. It's incredible. What happened with Lindsay Shepherd was done by Sacha Baron Cohen 20 years ago. This isn't weaponization, it's Conservatives needing safe spaces and demanding their own version of censorship. Stop crying.

“But what about Marner’s performance in games 5 to 7?” First the claim was that Marner's not a playoff performer. Now, the claim is that he can't perform in the games that matter. More specifically, the games that matter have hereby been declared as games 5-7. I'm not going to chase you guys around as you continue to move the goal posts to fit your narrative, but I'll put this one to rest. 1. I missed the memo - when was it decided that games 1-4 were meaningless and games 5-7 were all that mattered? How is each game weighted? Could someone please share the weighting system with me? You don’t think there’s enough pressure in a game 3 when you’re already down 0-2, or a game 4 when you’re down 1-2? Or in game 1, when you’re trying to get ahead in the series? Or any playoff game in any scenario at all? I’m blown away by this talking point - it’s a complete contradiction to everything I believe about the pressure & importance of every single playoff game. 2. Games 5 to 7, eh? This is not even an accurate reflection of elimination games - some game 4's have been elimination games, not all game 5's have been elimination games. He put up 8 shots and 3 apples in a 4-3 against Columbus, facing elimination in game 4 - not accounted for here. In elimination games, Mitch Marner has 13 points in 21 games played - below his regular clip, but a noticeable jump from the cherrypicked 5 to 7 stats. Not to mention, the Leafs are 7-14 in elimination scenarios, further contaminating the sample. Although, I guess your point is the fact they’re 7-14 is entirely Marner’s fault. 3. Marner has played 22 games 5 to 7, accounting for roughly 3% of his total NHL games played and just 1/3 of his playoff games. You are willfully disregarding 97% of Mitch Marner's career and 2/3 of his playoff appearances in favour of an arbitrary metric that, as I explained above, makes little sense anyway. You'll notice some guys are tracking his games 5-7 back to 2019 only. This is because it's convenient to exclude the 4 points in 3 games he had against Boston in games 5-7 the year prior when you're just trying to feed your confirmation bias. Not to mention, when you only go back to 2019, your sample is now 16 games out of 633, down to just 2.5% of his playing career. 4. Still not convinced this kind of cherry-picking is flawed? Consider this: Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and Brayden Point have combined for just 1 goal and 1 assist in games 5-7 over the last 2 seasons in a combined 9 games 5 to 7 played. Scrubs, the lot of ‘em. Must have forgotten how to play. I’ll say it again - there are plenty of justifiable reasons for trading Mitch Marner. Lack of ability is not one of them. #leafsforever
Courtney Weidelich@Courtney_sjc

@mcclusk Kinda fail to mention that all his points come in games 1-4. Once the series really gets to the point that they need to bear down and win he does disappear.

Professors should be embarrassed that they haven’t spoken up against this arrest. Journalists should be embarrassed that they haven’t covered it. Police should be embarrassed that they’ve expended resources on this. Speech is not a crime and Widdowson posed no risk to anyone.

Prime Minister Carney’s message today was largely expected. The warning signs have been there for months, especially as he increased his international travel. We’ve also reached this point because he has not delivered on his key promise to secure a deal with the United States—a commitment that was both economically important and politically central. In that context, suggesting that the United States is no longer an ally is, quite frankly, hard to believe. What we’re now seeing is a clear weakening of CUSMA as a reliable trade framework. The possibility of a direct deal between the United States and Mexico—leaving Canada on the sidelines—is no longer far-fetched. That would be a major shift for how trade works in North America. For the agri-food sector, the risks are real. About 75% of Canada’s agri-food exports go to the United States. That has worked well for years, but it also means we are highly exposed. Diversifying sounds good in theory, but in practice it takes time, money, and new infrastructure. In the meantime, farmers, processors, and distributors would feel the pressure through tighter margins. In food, geography matters. You can’t move farmland. What we produce has to be shipped, and the farther the customer, the higher the cost. That makes us less competitive. On logistics and supply chains, Canada still trails several G20 countries. PM Carney's use of “forward guidance” is really about preparing Canadians for what’s ahead, and perhaps shifting blame. But make no mistake, Canada’s position is weakening. This isn’t really about opinions—it’s about reality. The real test will be how Canadian households, especially the middle class, handle the pressure. The adjustment is coming. The only question is who will bear the cost.
