Live music isn’t dead. Normal people just can’t afford it anymore. Harry Styles is doing 12 nights at Wembley. Record-breaking. Over a million people. Fair play. But the price of getting through the door is mad. Tickets from £44 up to £466. Then trains. Or fuel. Food. Maybe a hotel. Maybe time off work. I’d love to take my daughter. It’s not really my thing, but she’d love it and that should be enough. Loads of parents feel exactly the same. The reality for many is simple. Unless it goes on a credit card. Or worse. It’s not happening. And I’m not doing that for a night out, no matter how special it would be. So people sit it out. Not because they don’t care. Because life already costs enough. Tours hitting fewer cities makes it worse. If it’s not local, the costs stack up fast and you’re out before you’ve even started. Live music used to feel reachable for normal families. Now it feels like another experience quietly slipping away. Has it gone too far?

@SkintDad A lot of people would be in a much better situation if they had the right financial education. Building up an emergency fund to cover periods of financial stress is one form of protection that many don’t have, even when they have been in a position to put this in place.

These numbers should stop you scrolling.
8.4 million people in the UK are on Universal Credit right now. Over 4 million of them aren’t even expected to look for work. That’s not a niche problem. That’s huge.
This isn’t about blaming anyone. Most people on UC aren’t lazy or skiving. They’re ill, burnt out, caring for someone, stuck in jobs that don’t pay enough to live, or worn down by years of just trying to get by.
But it does say something bigger.
It shows how close to the edge a lot of people are. How easy it is to slip from “just about coping” to needing help to survive.
The system is a safety net, not a plan. And that net is already stretched thin.
Having some control over your money isn’t about getting rich. It’s about not being one bad month away from panic.
That’s the reality.

Keeping up with other people will rinse you if you let it.
You scroll and it looks like everyone’s always away, always upgrading, always doing more. New cars. Days out. Meals you “should” be having. Kids doing things yours can’t right now. And you start wondering what you’ve done wrong.
Nothing. You’ve done nothing wrong.
You’re just seeing the bits people want you to see. Not the credit cards. Not the overdraft alerts. Not the rows at home about money.
Saying no hurts. Staying in hurts. Being the one who can’t afford it hurts. It can make you feel small, embarrassed, behind.
But here’s the truth people don’t post. A lot of that lifestyle is held together with stress and debt. Yours might be quieter, but it’s real. And it’s yours.
You’re not behind. You’re not failing. You’re surviving in a system that keeps moving the goalposts.
You don’t need to keep up. You just need to keep going.

We can all easily cherry-pick timeframes to show underperformance and overperformance.
What's important is the trend.
