Seems like a basic service but MUCH needed. I've spend hours on forensics work tracking down Autonomous DB IPs for customer who would not allow whole subnet range in their firewall.

@ianmiell Well, the main thing Ansible brought over Puppet & Chef was being agentless. Plus Python & a syntax you could actually understand when coming back to some code after a couple of years!

@simon_haslam That was the complaint last time, and I said Ansible did not bring anything new to the table. I tried to put it in this time, but it didn't make sense, as it was chronologically _after_ the CFEngine block below it. So I left it out.

@ianmiell That's interesting. I wonder what the colo capacity in UK has been like over the last 5 years though. There must have been quite a few smaller customers that went from colo to IaaS without too much difficulty, so I expect that drove DC provider consolidation.

Just learned that colos are basically 'out of space' and demand exceeds supply significantly.

Since early 90s, I'm hearing that software engineers will be replaced by machines one way or the other. Since then, the demand for software engineers only exponentially increased. Builders will keep building, occasionally with newer tools.
