@publicaddress I love the removing car parks &safety upgrades. I wonder at wisdom of not having the bus stops set back as now in rush hour a bus disgorging school kids hold the entire road up for the duration of the stops. It seems a good way to wind up drivers and lower support for bike lanes

Trying to get a kid HOP card is insanely hard - @AklTransport - now apparently a child has to go to a station to have a kid card activated- but most bussing kids never go near a station? This info is out of date on your website - at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferr…

This is actually even worse. It turns out there were two more mining executives at this undiaried dinner – which, contrary to Jones' previous assurances, was organised in advance. Did Matua Shane offer any more lobbying advice?

Shane Jones’ ministerial diary will be updated to include a dinner with mining interests revealed in a Newsroom story #Echobox=1715732128-1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newsroom.co.nz/2024/05/15/jon…

@publicaddress @cactuslab Such a huge part of the culture, such a great community and so much fun! Thanks for all the work you put in to this and the opportunities you made for so many people - a really significant and special thing

Bit of news this morning: publicaddress.net is officially retired. It's been dormant for a while, but I wanted to resolve it properly and the wonderful people at @cactuslab have tidied it up and locked it off. There's now a landing page there that sums it all up.

Einstein slept nearly 10 hours a day. He valued the significance of quality sleep for maintaining his well-being. His sleep routine, though, was out of the ordinary.
He regularly indulged in brief daytime naps, occasionally more than once a day. These quick naps, lasting just a few minutes, were thought by Einstein to revitalize his mental energy and creative thinking.
He felt that these short periods of rest gave him a renewed viewpoint to solve intricate scientific challenges.

@SikotiHamiltonR Slightly sideways but helicopter is a fascinating loan word - as you would think it would come from heli and copter together. But as @nosuchthing taught me it is actually from helico (for spiral) and pter (for wing) the same pt root that goes to pterodactyl.

English

This post shows the hypocrisy of those who criticise loan words in te reo Maori. The poster says topatopa is not a real Maori word, because it adapts helicopter. But the English word is adapted from a differently spelt French original. English can loan words, but not Maori...
Fighting Left Loonies🇳🇿@FightLeft
@SikotiHamiltonR Not counting new loan words. People that learned Maori 20 years ago don't recognise it now because of all the new words.

@REasther @NedGilmore There are ~60m of them so per capita it was a win, surely?
