Let’s hope this powerful Guardian article finally sparks real change.
It’s hard to understand why it’s taken so long to see right from wrong.
@LambethLibDems will keep standing with residents, justice must prevail. @LondonLibDems theguardian.com/society/2025/o…

@JaneyisLittle Wishing you the very best, Janey, in your candidacy. All power to you 👍👍
English

@JaneyisLittle Janey is an outstanding candidate with my full support. This misogynistic hate thrown at her is vile and unacceptable.
We need more women and young people in politics — not driven out by abuse. This behaviour shames our democracy.

Tonight, the President announced pardons and commutations of sentences for those who violently attacked the Capitol and law enforcement officers on January 6th.
The President's actions are an outrageous insult to our justice system and the heroes who suffered physical scars and emotional trauma as they protected the Capitol, the Congress and the Constitution.
It is shameful that the President has decided to make one of his top priorities the abandonment and betrayal of police officers who put their lives on the line to stop an attempt to subvert the peaceful transfer of power.
Despite the President’s decision, we must always remember the extraordinary courage and valor of the law enforcement heroes who stood in the breach and ensured that democracy survived on that dark day.

@thatginamiller @FlappySocks @pritipatel @bbclaurak At the heart of that flexible and unwritten constitution is the idea that Parliament is sovereign. Not 10 Downing St, not referenda. A principle that seems to have been conveniently overlooked by Boris and others during the Brexit wars.
English

For clarity. We do not have a written constitution so a PM's actions can set precedents for future PMs.
If May and Johnson had been successful in bypassing Parliament and change our rights, future PMs could do the same - irrespective of political party.
Just consider a PM pushing through these 3 polocies without Parliament's involvement?
- compulsory conscription for all 18 year olds for 5 years
- scrapping of all abortions laws
- scrapping of all laws around polluting our rivers and waterways
English

@pritipatel lying. The Acts only went through Parliament because I took PMs May and Johnson to the Supreme Court and won.
Both were attempting to put themselves above the law and bypass our sovereign Parliament!
@bbclaurak - call them out when they're blatantly lying!

“Your leader Kemi Badenoch said this week there was no plan for how to make Brexit work. You were one of the leading advocates for vote leave. Do you think you should apologise?” @bbclaurak
English

@JamesMacCleary @CalumMillerLD Yes fully agree - and on reading a number of the comments in this thread below, struck by a number which bear absolutely no relation to what Calum actually said!
English

Absolutely barn storming performance from @CalumMillerLD. A closer relationship with Europe is clearly in the UK's interests - especially with Trump in the White House. Let's just get on with it!
Liberal Democrats@LibDems
"The European Union is on our doorstep. We do 40% of our trade with them. That's this opportunity we should be taking in the country. "And that's all the more important when Donald Trump is threatening us from the other side of the Atlantic. " @CalumMillerLD #BBCQT

Calum Miller, "We know the NHS is in crisis because of the damage done by the Conservatives and I have sympathy with Labour trying to deal with that"
"But I'm also disappointed that Labour is not getting on with it faster.. I don't understand why social care report needs to take three years" #BBCQT
English

@bbcquestiontime could Fiona stop panellists waffling please? Surely it’s feasible to get through more than three questions in the entire programme?
English

@bbcquestiontime AND the Labour Minister says in response: “there’s no reason it should take three years” to collaborate. Great, well get in a room together then!
English

“Social care is holding up people from leaving hospital”
Lib Dem Calum Miller says his party would “love” to work cross-party on social care reform to alleviate NHS pressures, and is disappointed Labour are “not getting on with it faster”

@BarryHo31114049 @CalumMillerLD Yes - excited by this. Have a feeling he will do well…
English

@Alistair_X @LibDems Although constitutionally, parliament is sovereign, non?
English

"Forming a Customs Union with the EU is the single biggest thing we can do to turbocharge our economy in the medium and long term.
"But an agreement to work towards one would unlock big economic benefits for the UK now and start tearing down those damaging Conservative trade barriers this year. It would be a win-win for our country."
