Just one other thought on this: Imagine if instead of turning up and causing a huge drama, violence, and months, years even, of attention on this, if everyone had just ignored Posie Parker (as we did our best to); the event would have happened, been poorly attended, probably have got no media attention, or very little, and tens of thousands of actually transphobic NZers would not have been given such a reason to be angry and hate everything "woke"; NZ First would not have gotten such a boost; the shithouse legislation they are trying to push through would not be happening. It was strategically very stupid. Yes, so was inviting her here in the first place, but it remains one of the "left"'s biggest self-owns in recent times.

In 2020, MFW led a successful campaign to get Alan Jones off the air. Another male-led campaign group called Sleeping Giants started a similar campaign against Jones at the same time as us, but with only a tiny fraction of our success because their supporters did very little of the necessary work and their methods were way more ineffective. (Also, google what happened to their female co-founder in America to find out what that group is REALLY like.) Yet still to this day, most people think (and say) the campaign against Jones was run by TWO equally-important campaign groups. Or even that MFW was only a minor part of his departure. We can prove this isn’t true, but people ignore facts in favour of misogyny. Claiming MFW were only partly involved in getting rid of Jones is absolutely the minimisation, silencing and erasure of women. Absolutely it is. Yet when we point it out, we get called hysterical or over-sensitive or aggressive or immodest, simply for asking for the truth to be told and for refusing to shut up. Thus, the silencing becomes even worse because people also love to hate women merely for standing up for themselves. So they swivel to making up stories about us being grifters or thieves, all of which are also 100% untrue and easily disprovable. It is HARD for women to stand up to claim what they did. Which is part of the reason we’ve always been so easy to erase. Yet it’s critical that we all stop allowing ourselves to be erased, because doing so plays into the patriarchal objective, which is to keep women quiet and demure and thus retain all or most of the power and control. Thanks for the piece, it’s great.

This is not correct, it’s terrible writing, and you should delete it. It’s the same framing people use when women are killed by their male partners and people start saying she was a difficult woman or a nag or a bad mother. It is NEVER okay to kill other people. Never. That’s actually the law, apart from anything moral about it. You’re saying disabled people can be killed if they’re hard work, and it’s a blessing for them to be dead. What does that say to all the other disabled people reading this? Just stop it. It’s horrific.
