Had the honor of hosting @JohnLechner1 in my Colorado College course on Russia in the Spring to discuss his excellent book, Death Is Our Business, which my students enjoyed reading.

In October, at Oxford, and then in December, at UCLA, I unveiled a new theoretical explanation for cultural destruction. Until yesterday the video of the event was embargoed but it is now available online youtube.com/live/hd8bOXp_H…

A shot in the dark, but does anyone here have access to this book and want to share with me? Tried Amazon, but they won't deliver to the US and the only copy on Abebooks is $113 for shipping from Germany, which is insane.

This is an insult to the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire, to be used as a bargaining chip to ignite the ire of Turkey. In 2020, during the 44 Day War, Israel, ALONGSIDE Turkey, supplied Azerbaijan with intelligence and cutting-edge weaponry, leading to the killing of 5,000 Armenian soldiers, culminating in the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), and the mass exodus of 150,000 Armenians from their 2,000-year-old homeland. We will not allow the suffering of our people to be used for political weaponization. You want to recognize the Armenian Genocide? Do it on moral grounds, if you have any left.

I will bring before the Israeli government at its next meeting a proposed resolution for the official recognition by the Government of Israel of the Armenian Genocide. Recognizing the genocide perpetrated against the Armenian people in the final years of the Ottoman Empire is both a moral and historical duty. We must also firmly condemn any denial, minimization, or distortion of the historical truth. The resolution will subsequently be brought before the Knesset for a vote.

“I am not surprised to hear that Krikor is being considered for such a prestigious position,” recalls Denver-based political scientist Simon Maghakyan @simonforco, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford, who got to know Der-Hagopian during the latter’s graduate studies in Denver. “I remember him as a bright, sincere, and strategic thinker and bridge-builder,” Maghakyan told Al-Monitor.

Today marks 1,000 days since Azerbaijan began unlawfully detaining Artsakh Armenians as prisoners of war. The ongoing inhumane treatment and arbitrary detention of Armenian POWs is a grave violation of human rights and international law. We must use every diplomatic tool to hold Azerbaijan and the Aliyev regime accountable. All Armenian POWs must be immediately and safely returned home.

what to watch in today’s Armenian vote: –high turnout could be sign of lower support for Pashinyan –Kocharyan’s Armenia Alliance faces an 8% threshold, double what it is for parties –will any smaller oppo parties (Tatoyan, Marutyan) enter parliament
Hov Nazaretyan@HovhanNaz

It will be interesting to see how Yerevan votes in June. Pashinyan received just 41% in 2021, a full 20% lower than in the regions outside the capital. The latest IRI poll showed support for his party in Yerevan is nearly half of what it is in the provinces.

But EU leaders ignore arrests and prosecutions, praising Armenia’s democracy, because Pashinyan presents these cases as a fight against Russian influence. Read my analysis (in Russian) bbc.com/russian/articl… or listen to this BBC podcast (English) bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3…
