BREAKING: George Deek, Israel's Special Envoy to the Christian World, says "We never got involved or took position in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, per se", which led to the ethnic cleansing of Christian Armenians and their Churches from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). You have to admire that carefully placed "per se". The amount of heavy lifting it does for Israel's image in the Christian world would've been commendable had it not been a typical hasbara escape hatch, absolving Israel of any responsibility or accountability, and invariably collapsing under the weight of Israel's own record during that war. In no particular order: ⁃According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), between 2016 and 2020, leading up to the 44 Day War, roughly 69% of weapons exports to Azerbaijan came from Israel, in a war that butchered 5,000 Armenian soldiers, barely adults. So neutral. ⁃The highly advanced Israeli weapons systems included loitering munitions (suicide drones) such as the IAI Harop and Elbit SkyStriker, Hermes 900 reconnaissance drones, Spike anti-tank guided missiles, and LORA surface-to-surface ballistic missiles. ⁃Israeli weapons manufacturer Aeronautics Defense Systems used a suicide drone by attacking Armenian positions during a sale presentation at the behest of Azeri officials who requested a live demonstration. ⁃Israeli military personnel trained Azeri soldiers in piloting drones. ⁃Azerbaijan supplies 65% of Israel's crude oil imports, which are pumped via the BTC pipeline through Georgia and Turkey. A clear energy security and arms agreement: you send oil, we give you weapons. So neutral. ⁃In December 2023, Azerbaijan effectively blockaded the Lachin Corridor, the only route between Armenia and Artsakh. A starvation campaign ensued for 9 months, targeting hundreds of thousands of Armenian indigenous Christians: Food shortages, supermarket shelves emptied, families lining up for hours for a piece of bread. No fuel. No medicine. Cancer patients requiring urgent treatment were stranded. Malnutrition. Miscarriages. George Deek was Ambassador at that time. He was there in Baku. Did he voice concern for the besieged Christians in Artsakh? No. His country enabled it. Haaretz, an Israeli outlet, even published a bombshell report entitled "Israel's fingerprints all over the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh". To quote the Special Christian envoy himself: "When violence against a vulnerable minority is ignored because acknowledging it is politically inconvenient, there is a name for it: abandonment." For Israel, the defense of the Armenian Christian presence in Artsakh was politically inconvenient. That is why they were complicit in the ethnic cleansing of 150,000 indigenous Christian Armenians from their 2,000-year-old homeland.

After publicly confronting PM Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, Artur Osipyan, a displaced person from Nagorno-Karabakh was reportedly detained and taken away by force. Hours later, his phones were disconnected, and the Facebook page where he criticized the government disappeared.

The white marble bell tower in Stepanakert #NagornoKarabakh, built for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and housing relics with human remains from Deir ez-Zor,carried symbolic meaning was destroyed by Azerbaijan as global leaders spoke of peace at the @EPCArmenia

CHW has determined that the Armenian Genocide memorial in Stepanakert/Khankendi has been destroyed. Erected on the 100th anniversary of the 1915 atrocities, the white marble bell tower once housed a reliquary containing human remains from Der Zor—the Syrian desert town where hundreds of thousands of Armenians perished. Satellite imagery from Airbus and @Planet shows that the monument, as well as an associated memorial complex, were destroyed between July 14, 2025, and April 25, 2026. 1/5

Furthermore, the destruction of all monuments identified as Armenian—per the Dec. 6, 2005 Talibov decree—was to be completed by the end of 2006. Estimates extending the destruction to 2011, based on gaps in satellite data alone, are unconvincing.

Dear @NCRegister, the 98% figure is from @CaucasusHW, not me; based solely on satellite comparison. My estimate is 100%, which factors in Azerbaijan’s reclassification of a few architecturally ambiguous sites as Islamic. Everything Azerbaijan identified as Armenian was destroyed.

In Armenia, one road changed everything: visitors to Marmashen Monastery went from 3,000 to more than 40,000 a year. More tourists now mean fuller cafés, steady jobs, and families choosing to stay—or even return home to rebuild their lives. wrld.bg/85iJ50YRg4s

George Deek was Israel's ambassador to Azerbaijan from 2019 to 2025 while Israel was arming Azerbaijan and helping it complete the ethnic cleansing of Armenian Christians from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), where Azerbaijan is now destroying churches.
Ambassador Mike Huckabee@USAmbIsrael

Pleased to meet with Ambassador @GeorgeDeek, Israel’s Envoy to Christians. @Israel stands out as the only country in the region with a growing Christian population — and for good reason. Both our nations cherish religious liberty as the foundation of a free and prosperous society.

Since Azerbaijan’s top religious figure is defending the demolition of all churches in Stepanakert, it’s worth recalling that he not only has a mosque named in his honor—built atop a flattened medieval Armenian church—but also unveiled it with the official who oversaw the erasure
Simon Maghakyan@simonforco

As I wrote in @WSJ in March, a mosque was built over a flattened church in Nakhichevan in honor of Azerbaijan’s religious leader @SPashazade, as confirmed by @CaucasusHW. Nevertheless, I’ve asked him directly & in @wsj to advocate for preservation. Still waiting to hear back.

Confirmation via @planet that Azerbaijan has recently flattened the majestic Holy Mother of God—the mother cathedral of ethnically cleansed Stepanakert—along with the nearby Surb Hakob (St James) Church. I thank Planet Labs for providing the imagery for my UK Parliament testimony

My entire paternal family in 1955, all gone now. Sitting on the left are my great-grandparents Hagop & Khatun, who survived the #ArmenianGenocide thanks to kind Turks, met in Syria, moved to USSR. The baby is my father. May today’s 🇺🇸 recognition help them rest more peacefully

Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself. In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior. On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people — and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.
