Schools should not be asked to host religious rites inside the timetable, because the timetable is for everybody, not for religious formation. None of this prevents Communion. bit.ly/4jxgfC0

@MaryKenny4 I was at the talk in UCC and I think the point was more so that the baptism was a lifelong sentence because one cannot leave the church once baptised. One used to be able to defect but the Vatican closed that loophole in 2010.

@MaiaDunphy In my considerable experience Enoch’s initial action merited a sanction but not dismissal. @WilsonsHospital & DPA were both unprofessional and have both lacked fairness.

Sooner all appeals are over & Enoch Burke accepts his dismissal the better. Saddest thing for him is, he would have found a teaching job elsewhere if he'd just accepted the (rightful) dismissal. The entitlement of that family has made them unemployable. #IBlameTheMammy

@AlanWhelan17 @MaryKenny4 In fairness, and as much as the talk in UCC frustrated me too, her argument is that one can't leave the Catholic Church once baptised. There was a loophole which allowed someone to defect from the Catholic Church but this was closed.

Oops... When I recently listed Ministers for Education, I realised afterwards that I had left one out. I simply forgot that Jan O’Sullivan had held the role at all. One clear achievement was the repeal of Rule 68. Beyond that, her time was marked more by continuity than reform.

@AlanWhelan17 @CatholicBishops Or better yet, stop outsourcing them to school teachers, who as you've said, no longer believe in the message of Catholicism. Bishops need to bring families directly to church and explain the real focus of sacraments instead of allowing them to be treated like a hoohah

@simonlewis @CatholicBishops should take a more proactive role in normalising, simplifying and discouraging commercial trappings associated with major sacramental events such as baptism, First Communion, confirmation and matrimony.
