California outranks Texas in new top 100 'Best BBQ shops' list - but there's a catch trib.al/hJSJlQZ

English

Years back I went to the “top” barbecue place in San Diego. I asked for a brisket sandwich and they gave me a microwaved pulled pork sandwich. I told them it was pulled pork and they told me “thats the only sandwich they make” I was like “umm ok can I get some bbq sauce” thinking I could make it eatable. They handed me a store bought sauce that you can get at Walmart.
I laughed myself out of that place just like I laughed at this post when I saw it.

@BowTiedXmas @Muddybon Yep! When we had our shop wired a made sure the spot I would put one was ready for a phase converter but even those puppies ain’t cheap.
English

@simplesamtx @Muddybon 30k for the machine another 15k for the electrical 🫠
English

@simplesamtx Am I crazy? I just don’t see what’s the big deal about it. I get why it’s more expensive (craftsmanship ) , but I don’t feel it actually looks expensive.
English

@KerryHale17 I can see that. Installs are going to be the reason I quit one day. Between crap work and builders that don’t manage their jobsites im bout over it.
English

@simplesamtx Don’t I know it. By the end of my time, I was leaving an inch of dogear on the ends of my uppers for scribing to the wall. And on a couple occasions it still wasn’t enough. The state of the install space was one of the factors in me getting out. It wasn’t enjoyable any more.
English

@BowTiedXmas @Muddybon For sure. Big jump from that to the wide belts. We in the same boat. A good used double head wide belt seems to start out around 20-30 grand. Then there’s the whole 3 phase issue to deal with. There’s a few single phase machines out there but not many.
English

@Muddybon @simplesamtx What I really want is $30k. This will do fine for now.
English

Yeah that’s how it is in our area. Very few of us willing to do it. After about 10 inset jobs you finally feel like you’re getting the hang of it. The biggest issue I have with it is on the install side. Doesn’t seem like there is a framing crew around that can give good straight flat walls. Between them and the Sheetrock crews I want to pull my hair out by the end of the install. Uppers can’t tweak at all. If they do your lines go to trash.
English

@simplesamtx It was my specialty, but I also hated lots of the process to do it. I was the only shop in my area that could pull it off, and people wanted it. I tried to talk every last one of them out of it, to no avail.
English

@simplesamtx Point that out next time someone suggests the style.
English

@WellitHappened1 Haha. Yeah it does. Whenever we get a 1/2 overlay job I jump for joy. We don’t get to many of them anymore but when we do we knock em out super fast compared to this crap
English

@simplesamtx When you go back to making overlay man does it feel like a breeze though.
English

@BowTiedXmas We kept having the conveyor motor go out. We finally sold it after the last one went out. I dream of having a double head wide belt sander! 😂
English

@simplesamtx I just got that from an estate sale auction. I do a lot of epoxy inlay and need something to do the final sanding passes. Hopefully will be able to learn on this one before I go larger.
English

@WilliamN81650 Damn. Never thought about it from a user standpoint. Makes sense.
English

@simplesamtx Wife always points out the dust catch ledge that's difficult to keep clean.
English

@WellitHappened1 I don’t blame ya. They are a pain in the ass. From build to install they give us hell.
English

@simplesamtx I am probably never going to do them again after my last 2 jobs. They are such a headache.
English

@JeffGrenz For sure! We add 30-40 percent to the price of full overlay when we do them.
English

@c25351822 @colemarabito It’s really not about the lvp shrinking it’s about the wood it touches moving. That’s what the gap is for and I’ve seen builders do base after flooring to keep from using quarter round. That’s all I was saying earlier
English

@colemarabito @simplesamtx Also, my apology dude I thought you were the other guy. But yeah you can do whatever you want, but I’d advise you to think about it cause you won’t be able to control shrinkage with LVP. If it’s glued down and anything else fixed fine
