Nova Scotia would likely get more value by prioritizing offshore natural gas over wind because it delivers reliable baseload power, stronger long-term revenue, and more sustained skilled jobs. The province has trillions of cubic feet of proven and potential offshore gas, and past projects like Sable Offshore generated billions in economic activity and public income while improving energy security. Unlike wind, which is intermittent and requires backup generation, natural gas provides stable, on-demand power and reduces reliance on coal. If the government’s goal is to get the most impact for every taxpayer dollar, offshore natural gas should be a first priority as a high-return, practical energy investment.
