Ninety Nine years ago, on March 20, 1927, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar led the Mahad satyagraha – for drinking water from the Chavdar tank at Mahad. This was the “foundational struggle” of the dalit movement, a movement for water and for caste annihilation, which was met with violent repercussions by Caste Hindus. While the physical tank at Chavar tank was physically opened for Dalits, the ritual codes of purity have migrated into the schools, universities, asterisk in gazettes, and statistical aggregate in the national surveys. Atrocities for touching water pots in school, pumping water in the heat, accessing borewells, falling headlong in the well due to water shortage, poisoning the well with endosulfan. Caste remains the central grid of water infrastructure even today. After the violent attack by Caste Hindus for accessing Chavadar tank, Dalits retreated, came back several months later on December 25 for a renewed struggle, and since the collector had given an injunction against any further attempt, Ambedkar decided to honor this and instead burned the Manusmriti.

On the death anniversary of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda, I pay my respectful tributes to a visionary who dedicated his life to the identity, dignity, and empowerment of Jharkhand. In his honour, we are taking forward the expansion of the Marang Gomke Overseas Scholarship to support 50 students from marginalized communities in Jharkhand, enabling them to pursue higher education at leading global institutions in the UK. We are also advancing the launch of the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Doctoral Scholarship Programme in collaboration with @StJohnsOx @UniofOxford - strengthening India–UK academic collaboration and enabling our youth to engage with world-class research and innovation ecosystems. Our commitment remains steadfast - to carry forward Marang Gomke’s legacy by empowering our youth and connecting Jharkhand’s aspirations with global excellence. Johar!

My column in today's @IndianExpress. Wrote about the “first in the bloodline” trend which took over our timelines & ❤️ “True progress will arrive when being the first for women no longer feels revolutionary. When choosing oneself is not an act of defiance, but an ordinary right”

I always feel interview-ready - at least in my imaginary prep sessions. Yesterday, in the real one, I panicked and coined a new term: 'plurology'. All three interviewers went straight to their notepads like I’d just eureka’d my way through a human crisis. Humbled🫠

@prithviism @SurbhiKesar this is savarna detachment; escaping accountability - but be able to capitalise DBA pain and call it 'scholarship' as if not enabling it. Be able to able to write public-facing work but not support it publicly?? Silence is not a choice but a sign of complicity.
