Thailand is planning to scrap its 60-day visa-free entry scheme as it tightens screening of foreign visitors, The Bangkok Post reported today.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said the move is part of a shift towards attracting higher-quality, long-stay tourists.
He said the government is reviewing visa policies after a trial period, with feedback gathered from multiple agencies.
The initial proposal is to end visa-free entry for all countries and revert to previous visa requirements.

National broadcaster RTM has come under fire from PAS after its TV2 channel aired a cartoon series called “Cleopatra in Space”, which allegedly contained an LGBTQ+ element.
In a statement, PAS ulama wing chief Ahmad Yahaya questioned how the government-owned television station selects its content.
He said this was the second time such an issue had occurred, after RTM aired an animated series last year called “Santiago of the Seven Seas”, which also allegedly contained similar elements.

A father of two was sentenced to one month in jail and fined RM300 by the Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to stealing various daily necessities, including two tins of sardines.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan handed down the sentence after Mohd Rashid Mohd Noh, 44, admitted to the charge when it was read to him.
The e-hailing driver faces an additional seven days’ jail if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge, Mohd Rashid stole 20 items — including two tins of sardines, all-purpose flour, dishwashing liquid, bath soap and an air freshener — worth RM404.22 from an Aeon supermarket in Taman Maluri, Cheras, at 8.10pm on April 18.
