If you don’t like this picture, you’ll like it even less if Trump gets back in the White House and has a chance to hand pick more Supreme Court justices.

@stefwithanfany @splcenter Oh no! Learning for Justice is an invaluable resource -- reaching and supporting so many educators at a time when K-12 teachers need MORE, not less support to teach truthfully in the face of anti-history & anti-LGBTQ+ laws and book bans.

ICYMI: we built a Flip importer. Access it at padlet.com/flip-importer
Thanks for testing it. We learn and improve with every import. There are fewer bugs now.
The largest import so far was over 3GB and took less than 3 minutes to upload.

7 years ago I wrote my first blog post about Flipgrid
Today I'm sharing a post on my new blog with alternatives to a tool that will be missed
If you're not ready for alternatives yet that's ok💚
However, if you're looking then these are some good ones

@MicrosoftFlip @techcoachjuarez What I fear you're missing here is that it isn't about the camera or asking students to submit a video to a teacher. Flip was about community - and about the ways in which a collective could engage in discussion together. That's far from what you're describing.
English

@techcoachjuarez While we understand this is upsetting for our Google Community members, educators can still access the Flip camera inside Teams for Edu. This option is free for eligible schools, providing a safe & secure environment for video discussions using the same Flip camera you love.
English

The Flip Camera is moving to Teams for Education, we are retiring our web and mobile apps. Now, you can just click on Assignments inside Teams, and select video from the dropdown menu to send and receive video assignments with your students. Learn more on Flip.com.

The @IRCSchools Board voted against the committee decision to retain @AlanGratz’s Ban This Book. They banned a book because it mentions other banned books.
It’s truly absurd.

Feels like a reasonable option. Still hunting for more. Maybe vidcast?
Padlet@padlet
We don't have all the Flip features. We don't have their cool AR camera. We don't have video comments. Video comments will be out in a week or so. AR camera may take time. But we do have the same easy video recording, collaboration, and LMS integrations.

A year of fighting book bans culminated in one high school senior handing her superintendent a copy of THE HANDMAID'S TALE at graduation instead of shaking his hand.

Flip (previously Flipgrid) is being discontinued. The site and apps will not be available after September 2024. 😢
Padlet is an alternative. Students can add videos of themselves to a post using Padlet's Video Booth.

Okay, friends. What options are like Flip for those of us who aren't part of the Teams ecosystem? (This one hurts.)

@MattRKay Teacher education programs also have accrediting bodies and required standards - in many states, there is input from the legislature, the professional standards commission, the state DOE. A LP template comes from many sources that aren't us... Are you talking with your COEs?

Too many educators, intimidated by the magic phrase "science of learning," swallow dubious claims by proponents of traditional teaching. My new blog post looks at one example: "Cognitive Load Theory: An Unpersuasive Attempt to Justify Direct Instruction" - alfiekohn.org/blogs/clt/
