@sonderingflower @katerexia I can agree my original tweet was too absolute. My point wasn’t that everyone with an ED is unfit for healthcare. It was that if your ED is affecting how you view or treat patients, then it’s bleeding into patient care. I just conveyed it horribly because its a twitter reply.
English

@skeeterboyz1 @katerexia It entirely depends on your mental stability. If you're taking up a job like that, it's your responsibility to decide if you can. But saying all people with EDs should not work in healthcare is a stretch, because no ED is the same.
English

@sonderingflower @katerexia So you agree it can affect patient care. Where do you draw the line? At what point does someone become unfit to practice? If your illness is severe enough that you can’t consistently meet your own basic health needs, why should patients assume it isn’t affecting your judgment?
English

@skeeterboyz1 @katerexia no because body dysmorphia effects your own image. it doesn't always affect what you think of other people. i wouldn't trust a counselor who was abusing because that's an unrealistic scenario, facilities drug test their employees. that's also just an irrelevant comparison.
English

@sonderingflower @katerexia My point isn’t that people with EDs are bad people or that they can’t look outside of their illness, it’s just that if your illness prevents you from caring for yourself, it raises legitimate questions about whether you’re fit to care for others.
English

@sonderingflower @katerexia If you’re actively unable to meet one of the most basic requirements for your own health because of your disorder, why should patients trust your judgment on theirs? It doesn’t make sense. Would you trust a substance abuse counselor who was actively abusing drugs? -
English

@sonderingflower @katerexia Because you obviously cant take care of yourself, its really that simple.

@sofieisalive Dont touch another person’s food before they eat it, I feel that shouldn’t be a point of contention for anyone with an understanding of boundaries.
