Swing and a miss! Major League Baseball encouraged players to wear “Black Lives Matter” on their uniforms but reportedly threatened Christians who write Bible verses on their hats. @USEEOC will investigate whether this amounts to religious discrimination.

@WarrenHale @Alan_Covington I had this opinion, but yesterday I learned that the players have the option of not wearing any special uniforms and instead to wear everyday uniforms. This is a fair option as is the rule that players should not be allowed to alter uniforms. Since I learned, this is a non-issue.

If the employer is approving some political speech while silencing other political speech they may be opening themselves up to a hostile workplace/discrimination claim. Employees may claim the policy is a proxy for discrimination based on race, sex, or religion. Does the uniform policy hold up if MLB is altering uniforms as political statement? Its not as cut and dry as you are claiming.

There are no ‘religious freedom’ issues here. The guidelines cover everyone. No exceptions to MLB guidelines because you are religious. Would Republicans support a player who writes “Jesus sucks” on his hat? How about a verse from the Koran?

I really don't see a problem, legal or otherwise, as players shouldn't be allowed to change uniforms while also not being forced to wear uniforms that endorse non-baseball issues. Seems logical to me.

Not entirely sure what you're asking, but I think I got the gist of it. MLB has rules around uniform and hat code, the players violated it. Had nothing to do with the content of the message, but that they had written something on it. They are more than free to expressing their Christian faith in ways that do not violate MLB's uniform code, as many Christian MLB players do daily.

@BuzzPatterson Does California deserve better? In theory, yes as we want the best for society. However, in reality they vote for this, and time and time again, so they get what they get. And if it is a terribly mismanaged state, then nobody is surprised. So no, they don't deserve better.
