The narrative that ethanol is a "zero-emission, pollution-free" miracle fuel is fundamentally flawed. Swapping petrol for alcohol doesn't eliminate pollution - it just rewires the chemistry and shifts the location. 1/. The Tailpipe Reality Check Yes, ethanol adds oxygen, helping engines burn fuel cleaner to cut Carbon Monoxide (CO) and particulate matter. But it’s not a free lunch. Burning ethanol causes a sharp spike in toxic acetaldehyde emissions (a suspected carcinogen) and increases evaporative VOCs. 2. The NO_x Factor Because ethanol alters combustion temperatures and air-fuel ratios, real-world testing frequently shows an upward tick in Nitrogen Oxides (NO_x). That means more ground-level ozone and worse respiratory health in dense urban areas. 3. The Life-Cycle Illusion The "carbon-neutral" claim assumes crops absorb all the CO2 they later emit. But look at the full "well-to-wheel" footprint: intensive farming relies on fossilfuel-guzzling tractors, heavy synthetic fertilizers, and massive distillation plants usually fired by coal or gas. 4. The Land and Water Toll Industrial feedstock cultivation triggers severe soil degradation and pesticide/fertilizer runoff, causing aquatic dead zones. When forests or grasslands are cleared for energy crops (Indirect Land Use Change), the net carbon release can rival conventional petrol. Ethanol is as pollution free as a politician is honest.

राजीव गांधी की हत्या के दिन 21 मई 1991 को लालकृष्ण आडवाणी अपनी किताब में लिखते हैं – राजीव रंजन लालकृष्ण आडवाणी 21 मई को रात को 10 बजे गांधीनगर में एक जनसभा को संबोधित कर रहे थे..। तभी एक आदमी स्लिप लेकर आता और आडवाणी जी स्लिप पढ़ते ही तुरत सभा को समाप्त करने की घोषणा करते हैं...। आडवाणी जी ने सभा को कहा कि एक बहुत त्रासद खबर आई है राजीव गांधी जी की हत्या हो गई...। उसके बाद लालकृष्ण आडवाणी जनसभा से सीधे गांधीनगर सर्किट हाउस पहुंचते ही तुरंत उप प्रधानमंत्री देवी लाल का कॉल आता दिल्ली चल रहे हो...। आडवाणी जी लिखते हैं कि जब 1984 में कांग्रेस को 400 सीट आई तब बीजेपी के 2 सांसद ही जीते..। उस वक्त राजीव गांधी ने विपक्ष के सभी बड़े नेताओं को बुलाया उसमें उनकी सौम्यता ऊर्जा आधुनिक मुझे ताजिंदगी याद रहेंगे, भले ही वो राजनीति विरोधी रहे हो लेकिन उनकी सौम्यता देखने लायक थी...।

After ethanol for petrol, the next step is iso-butanol for diesel! Govt-run ARAI and private player Praj Industries are testing 10 % IsoButanol blended diesel, and if the results are satisfactory, blended diesel will be rolled out! 1. Ethanol-blending for diesel has not worked. 2. That's why IsoButanol, which is derived from ethanol. 3. IsoButanol is more energy dense than ethanol. 5 % blending has shown 1-2 % drop in fuel efficiency so far. 4. 10 % should double this though. This is why Govt is treading carefully as diesel move the country. And the transport sector will not accept big drops in fuel efficiency. 5. A silver lining for petrol cars: Isobutanol can be blended in petrol as well. It doesn't damage engines like ethanol. And existing ethanol factories can be cost-effectively retro-fitted for isobutanol production. @CarToq cartoq.com/car-news/india…

@nachiket1982 Very right !Moreover,as per statutory provisions, Mixing (not blending) of ethanol into standard FUEL received from Refinery at Marketing Terminals is purely “ADULTERATION”,as such E-20 is not supplied directly from Refineries with certain exception,mean Fuel Quality compromised

The #E20 fuel cover-up is clearly a full-blown scam. Check out this coordinated stonewalling from the Govt and OMCs: 1️⃣ Ministry of Petroleum sat on the RTI for 2 months, then shuffled it away. 2️⃣ ARAI claims the actual testing data is a "confidential" state secret. 3️⃣ HPCL & BPCL shut down the RTI, hilariously claiming that asking for a physical report is "seeking an opinion." 4️⃣ IOCL just replied by pointing me to the generic NITI Aayog roadmap already in the public domain—completely dodging the actual test reports. They are playing bureaucratic games because the truth is terrifying: SIAM's own official stance warns that putting E20 in incompatible vehicles isn't just about losing mileage - it is a massive safety risk. There are no hidden success reports. The Ministry lied in their press release, the OMCs are complicit, and millions of Indian motorists are being forced to drive ticking time bombs on a ghost policy @HindustanPetroleum @BPCLimited @IndianOilcl @PetroleumMin @siamindia @arai_india @HardeepSPuri

On expected lines, reply from @IndianOilcl is also a piece of mumbo-jumbo. 1. They say they just assisted @siamindia & @arai_india in a study which they don't have detailed report of. 2. The link they've shared is of the NITI aayog roadmap which I've been referring to time and again. The same roadmap in which SIAM clearly recommends that e20 for existing vehicles is not just detrimental to efficiency, but also a safety risk. 3. SIAM has actually recommended e20 to be rolled out from 2028 with parallel availability of e10. When automobile association bodies have clearly warned that existing vehicles are incompatible with e20, why the forced rollout claiming some research which probably doesn't exist? My question still remains (as of millions of petrol vehicle owners) - Where's the research studies report that @PetroleumMin claims to have? @HardeepSPuri

Read the owner's manual of any petrol vehicle in India which is mfd before April 2023 and it'll say the same "Alcohol blended petrol with more than 10% ethanol is detrimental to the health of the vehicle". But NiGa knows more about the vehicle engine than the company which made it.
