April 14, 1993: Chicago Bulls fan Don Calhoun attends his first Bulls game in three years and throws in a 75-foot shot that wins him $1,000,000. Calhoun was selected to shoot because a Bulls employee felt his “suede hiking boots wouldn’t scuff the court."

I've been working on this more— I'm on draft #25 for so—and I'll probably post it soonish. I'd guess I've spent about 7 or 8 hours on it so far.

I had decided last year that I needed to write an update to my Decryption Originalism article based on the second transcript that exists. I wasn't sure when I would have the time. But I just had AI run a useful comparison of the two transcripts. Not sure what to do with it.

A few years ago, I wrote an article on the original public meaning of the privilege against self-incrimination based in large part on a transcript of arguments in the 1807 prosecution of Aaron Burr. An update: There's another transcript! Thread. harvardlawreview.org/print/vol-134/…

@EvansRyan202 There is probably the fastest way to encourage Iran to get a nuclear weapon. They obviously in the past could have built one but chose not to, now that the US is attempting regime change the best way to prevent external threats to the regime in the future is through nukes.

One of the worst parts of EV ownership is losing range every day… even when the car is just sitting there! I’m down to 87% capacity after nearly 4 years and 57,000 miles The palladium Model S / X are known for higher than usual capacity loss so this isn’t a shock, it just sucks. Enjoy the video ⚡️

@pat_hedger It's an all time terrible job by the cops lawyer. He should have told them even if they won they would be made fun of by everyone 100x more. If they just ignored afroman it would have blown over much quicker.

The Afroman Trial. -Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons. -Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up. -No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman. -Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras. -Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives. -During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat. -The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation. -Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit. -Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them. -One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife. -As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE. -The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman. This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

First non-Iranian cargo transits Strait of Hormuz with AIS on The Aframax tanker Karachi, carrying Abu Dhabi’s Das crude, has become the first non-Iranian cargo to transit the chokepoint while broadcasting its AIS signal, suggesting that select shipments may be receiving negotiated safe passage. According to #MarineTraffic data, the 237-metre crude oil tanker entered the Iranian Exclusive Economic Zone on 15 March at 11:33 UTC and crossed the Strait of Hormuz at 14:43 UTC. The vessel is currently sailing in the Gulf of Oman at around 9.6 knots, having successfully passed through the strait with AIS active. The transit follows weeks of significantly reduced traffic through the strategic waterway, with more than 20 long-range tankers reported to have exited the Gulf.

@itskyleconner @WassymBensaid I hate this approach. It locks customers into a system that requires a car company to support a car forever. What happens when the cellphone technology changes and the car cannot connect to rivian? I will always have a phone or something similar.

We got the NFLPA report card results: Miami ranked 1st for the 3rd year in a row. Pittsburgh ranked last- 32nd- in part because of a new category- HOME FIELD- that the Steelers ranked last in. "lowest rated field by a wide margin," the survey said. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

@NateSilver538 Also it's harder to get that new cancer treatment if you don't have a job or insurance. Maybe this is solved by universal income and universal Healthcare in the medium term, but in the short term it's going to be a bloody transition.

Displacement of narrow classes of blue-collar workers (e.g. coal miners), even if most of society would benefit, usually causes *huge* political battles. Here, the displacement would be much broader, the benefits are less clear, and the people displaced are more influential.

IMO "AI will replace a broad swath of white-collar work within a few years", an explicit premise of AI leaders/optimists, doesn't have a historical precedent. Usually these transitions would take decades. And not affect white-collar workers first, who have more political power.

What drives me crazy about status quo bias and opposition to progress is that when the cancer cure comes, no one who opposes the data center will refuse it. When your grandma is killed by a human driver when most cities are self driving, no one will think of the other grandmas.
