@SergZh_ @BrendanEich I found this setting and turned it off now. This was definitely this, not some random web page. I don't recall seeing it previously. Might be I clicked something carelessly and forgot. But others may have had similar experience. Appreciate your reaction, will give it another go.

@BrendanEich @skuteli Could you check if you have Brave Rewards enabled? It's under Settings -> Brave Rewards. Websites could also bring notifications if you allowed them to notify you. It would be cool if you could show an example of the notification.

Turning non-deterministic, hallucinating LLMs, as the basis of so-called agentic browser AI, *on by default* without explicit user consent, is against Brave's user-first principles. It may be that we are alone in taking this position on principle. Re: theverge.com/tech/845216/mo…,

@ErisButRacist @brave @ShyOwl888 That's the plan. You have to read into the X thread to find the link to it, but please see the blog post at brave.com/blog/ai-browsi…, specifically this part: "Like all AI features in Brave, AI browsing is completely optional...".

@BrendanEich No hard feelings or rant, just feedback. I just assumed this is monetization strategy. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I missed something or there was 3rd party involved. But I'm a mature user, not some add-clicking accept-all person so I assumed this is how it is meant to be. Good luck!

@skuteli What do you mean? No notification based ad is on by default. Did you opt into rewards, or do you mean new tab page sponsored images?

@BrendanEich I'm saying it as a user attracted by your offer. Installed the mobile app on android, started using it as my mobile browser. Quite often notifications appeared advertising some kind of crypto trades. Not sure if I could opt out but I most definitely did not opt in. Uninstalled.

This is 100% it Mamdani is the left's Trump and he won cause he properly addresses the issues people care about now And worldwide young people struggle leaving their parent's house because they can't find an affordable place to buy or rent Almost every issue right now follows back to there's not enough houses and now it's starting to affect society with radical left leaders getting elected They almost certainly have the wrong solutions, but they 100% address the right issues Almost everywhere in the world we should be agressively building more homes and making it easier to do so, so everyone can afford a roof above their head If we don't, they will start electing these leaders everywhere and you really don't want to see where that ends Build more homes for everybody!!!!

Here is Peter Thiel’s email to Zuck and Andreessen in Jan-2020 predicting socialism. Tl;dr too much student debt and lack of affordable housing keeps young people with negative capital for too long. And without a stake in the capitalist system, they will turn against it.

@kamilkazani Very good thought. But I ask myself a follow-up question: Why do you make up the narrative? Is it because you don't know how you won or is it because you need to conceal it, so others won't repeat it?

Yes, but so did England The later narrative - we just did laissez faire and got rich - is a propagandist BS made up later So, basically first you win, then you make up a BS fairy tale of how you won, and then you start believing in the fairy tale, genuinely and sincerely

@kamilkazani True, but one should not forget influence of older homogenizing institutions, for instance religions. Maybe also early religion-based states like ancient Egypt had similar homogenizing powers, at least at their core. (In contrast to multiethnic empires)

Peter Thiel: I went to the World Economic Forum in Davos the last time in 2013, and of course, they have the same ideas as the mob. And in some ways, it is a mob. And people are there only in their capacity as representatives of corporations or of governments or of NGOs. And it really hit me: There are simply no individuals. There are no individuals in the room. There’s nobody there who’s representing themselves. And it’s this notion of the future I reject. A picture of the future where the future will be a world where there are no individuals. There are no people with ideas of their own. There’s nobody to say, this is wrong. This doesn’t make sense. And I’m going to think differently. I’m going to think for myself.

I coraz bardziej to widać.

@RyanCarniato What exactly is the difference between Simple vs Easy? I don’t understand how that is on a spectrum For me, whats simple is easy and what is easy is simple React is definetely “harder” to write than Svelte or Vue

A few years ago it was relatively easy to tell where people's JavaScript framework preferences would lean. But with React's upcoming compiler and Svelte moving to Rune's this picture gets a lot muddier.

@TkDodo @igalklebanov I lost few hours being confused by default retries and refetchOnFocus. Yes it's documented, yes I should have read docs carefully, but imho it should be opt-in. I would default to no fancy behaviour, but recommend these settings in first example in the docs {explicit:defaults}

@PaulinaOlszanka Any economic shock is a problem for the most vulnerable, but I would argue that inflation is decreasing disparity. The value of the debt is falling, as is the value of savings. Real problems for the mortgage payers will come if the prices of property go down (not happening yet)

Inflation in Poland is so high (12/13%) that it's hard to imagine that it isn't going to fling a sizable chunk of the population into real poverty. Living conditions have been improving in Poland for many years now, with a burgeoning middle class, but this will change.
