@Tom730410985 @RonDeSantis Tax are by definition money that powerful people extract from their victims by threat of violence. They are not payment for services. To even begin to analyse some imagined relationship between taxes extracted and benefits dribbled out is absurd.

Taxes based upon valuation are ridiculous as an idea. I bought a home in Ft Lauderdale last year and the taxes will go up 50% because of valuation was suppressed by the 3% limit and the prior owner owned it for 25 years. The house won't consume any more than it did and in fact less because there are two of us instead of 5....less of everything. Complete fraud.

It’s time to bring back Blair, by Samuel Rubinstein (@si_rubinstein) How much ink has been spilled, in recent months, on the matter of ‘Anglo-Gaullism’? Here he is, at last, le Général — and he was under our noses all along! The actual policies of de Gaulle, his ‘certain idea of France”, all this was only secondary. The real lesson of Gaullism is this: when the state is on the edge of crisis, when it is crying out for a radical reimagining, it is best to entrust power to one who has already proved his mettle. Tony Blair has proved his mettle. We want economic growth, political stability, and a state that can do things; he brought us all these things before, and he can do so again. Iraq might have been a catastrophe, but other countries know the benign power of his touch. Perhaps soon our cityscapes will contain his statues; perhaps our own playgrounds will teem with ‘Toniblers’. Read more below ⬇️ t.co/BVkqgQgNkR

Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas

Some people are, ironically enough, incapable of understanding the Pope's point. They can only understand consciousness in terms of inputs and outputs, à la behaviorism and functionalism. The fact that an LLM can "discuss love lucidly" is very different from loving. Directing attention here and there, or expending limited attention, is embedded in organic resources needed for survival; there is an organic, biological reason we immediately attend to the source of pain. This can be programmed and mimicked, of course, but what results is not properly called attention, any more than sensors indicating damage would be properly called pain. Ash calls the essential embodiment of consciousness unfalsifiable, but it's his own view that is more plausibly unfalsifiable. If you define consciousness entirely by behavioral outputs, then nothing about what's actually happening inside the system can ever count against your claim. In short, those who do understand the Pope—and his point is hardly original or new—understand the significance of being embodied. They know that consciousness is essentially a feature of living beings interfacing with the world. Now, if you can make an AI that is truly a living being, that might be conscious; that would be a trick.

Hunter Ash@ArtemisConsort

I know I’ll anger some followers with this, but I find this embarrassingly juvenile. Many of these claims are mere technical problems: embodiment, sensors, continual learning. The rest are just special pleading. These systems can already discuss love, friendship, responsibility etc more lucidly than most humans, so the claim must be some sort of totally unfalsifiable human chauvinism. There is no possible set of behaviors AIs could exhibit which would put a dent in his confidence in these assertions. An embodied AI (robot) could be raised (continually learning in context) among humans, exhibiting every conceivable sign of love, compassion, responsibility, and friendship, and the Pope would still say “doesn’t count because silicon instead of meat”. It would be more respectable if he just said “I don’t care if they can exhibit these traits because humans are my tribe” but instead he makes a giant list of assertions that have either already been proven false, will be proven false soon, or are unfalsifiable.

What does this mean for families? This law is designed to strengthen protections for children online by requiring greater accountability from app stores when it comes to minors accessing digital platforms and content. For years, parents have raised concerns about children being exposed to: • harmful and addictive content • predatory algorithms • inappropriate apps • online exploitation risks • AI-powered platforms with little oversight Today’s decision is a major step toward giving parents more transparency and more control in the digital age. Big Tech should not be the only line of defense protecting children online. Parents are demanding action! Accountability is coming.

When even speaking the uncontested, factually documented truth is no defense against "hate speech," you have tyranny. If you want to help @DVanLangenhove pay his legal bills, go here: givesendgo.com/Dries
Dries Van Langenhove@DVanLangenhove

A very sad announcement. I have just been convicted a second time for 'hate speech' and it is only due to a technicality that I could not immediately be sent to jail —to the judge's frustration. In an ironic turn of events it's actually thanks to my previous prison sentence (for memes in a private group chat) that I am now still free —in a physical sense, at least. Call me naive but I didn't think they would take it this far, given that this precedent criminalises many of the arguments used by even the most moderate politicians critical of mass migration. In February 2024 I gave a lecture at Catholic University Leuven wherein I linked mass migration to crime and a deterioration of our quality of life. Every single point I made was 100% the truth and based on scientific evidence. Cynically, even the judge that convicted me admits as much by writing in his verdict: “Even if all of the statements made by Van Langenhove are based on scientific evidence and statistics, it makes no difference to the criminal intent. Van Langenhove is not charged with spreading false information. He is charged with presenting facts in a way that incites hatred against persons on the grounds of one or more of the protected criteria in the Anti-Racism Law.” That's a lot of words just to say he wants to send me to prison for speaking the truth. Even the regime media write: "It did not matter to the court that Van Langenhove was quoting scientific sources. The judge argued that Van Langenhove's main message was that a big part of the societal problems like insecurity, housing shortages and lowering educational standards are due to mass migration." You may think the regime media are being sympathetic to me in the first sentence, but in reality they are warning people: even if you speak the truth, if you go against our narrative, we will crush you in every way possible. Both the public prosecutor and the judge did not present a single real argument as to how or against whom I would have incited hatred. So even if I would accept their crazy, dystopic law, I still did not break it. The only argument they present is that I created a "hostile atmosphere of us versus them” in regards to migrants. But even this silly argument (which is not even a punishable offence) is not true. To me, the deadly disease is self-hatred and one of its worst symptoms is replacement migration. My enemy is thus NOT the migrants themselves but those orchestrating the mass migration. Sadly, in Belgium, evidence is not needed and ‘vibes’ are enough to put someone in jail. Given the fact that I have another court case coming up in September and that I have a dozen active criminal investigations for hate speech, time is running out for me. I have already paid more than €420,000 in legal fees and there is no ending in sight. I have been in an intense battle of attrition for eight years and must now regroup to make sure I can still win. If you want to help me, you can do so via the links below. If you can help in other ways, please contact me via DM. If you live in a country that still has free speech, never let them touch it, however noble they make the motives sound, because this is where it leads to.

Imagine being convicted for statements like this (from the transcript). It is essentially illegal to argue against mass immigration in Belgium.
