@BianchiWeather 225pm. Fire appears to be out, but emergency vehicles remain on the scene. Turns out this was only 1/4 mile south of my location. A bit too close for comfort. #cowx #redfoxfire

Morning view from GOES-18, enhanced by forward scattering, shows the pall of wildfire smoke that is enveloping the eastern half of the U.S. just as a dangerous heat wave builds. While air quality impacts are not too severe (yet), smoke + heat can be a dangerous combination for anyone without access to A/C and air filtration.

I'm glad they were able to get this under control quickly yesterday. Way too close for comfort for people affected by the #MarshallFire. A jarring reminder that fires will keep occurring in this area. Fastidious grasslands management is one key part of mitigating risks. #COfire

NEW FIRE near Boulder! 🔥 Started around 1:40PM along Highway 36 between Boulder and Superior (in the Marshall Fire burn scar). Fire looks to be spreading SW away from the highway. #COWx #Boulderwx

Monday morning #COfire update…a new start has been reported in the San Isabel Mtns, where a mountain wave event is ongoing. Rapid fire growth is underway. Communities along Hwy 78 into Beulah Valley should evacuate immediately!

Fuel Moisture Content (10-h dead fuels) shows extreme low fuel moisture content of <6% for significant areas in Colorado and Utah. Meanwhile, parts of central Colorado are experiencing exceptional drought (D4). FMC data source: NSF NCAR / RAL: fmc.ral.ucar.edu Drought data source: U.S. Drought Monitor: droughtmonitor.unl.edu

Extremely critical fire conditions continued for a 2nd day in Colorado, leading to explosive fire growth and several new starts. This may be just the beginning of a pretty rough stretch for the state. #GoldMountainFire is threatening the Ouray/Ridgeway area, exhibiting extreme fire behavior. #WillowFire is a new start that exploded to 1000+ acres in the Mount Massive Wilderness of Lake County in just a couple hours. It continues to rapidly grow, threatening popular camping areas like Turquoise Lake. #FerrisFire, mapped at 11,000+ acres has made a significant run in Dolores County. #11Fire is a new start in Fremont County at 43 acres. All of these fires have evacuation orders. Satellite imagery courtesy of @CIRA_CSU RAMMB Slider. Tomorrow, fire weather conditions will improve somewhat, but will still be "elevated". #COfire

The #WillowFire is now over 1,100 acres and continues to spread rapidly to the NE after only 2 hours. More evacuations are in place for the Colorado Trail and Hagerman Pass.

Getting increasingly concerned about the brand new #WillowFire near Leadville (top right on repost). The fire is burning very hot and already showing signs of extreme fire behavior. Mandatory evacuations are in place near Turquoise Lake. FAA cam at KLXV looking north #cowx

An ominous photo of the Gold Mountain Fire burning near Ouray last night. A very rough weekend of wildfires across Colorado. Thinking of all those in harm’s way and affected by this. 📸: Desmond Davis

Smoke has reached the Front Range from multiple large fires burning in western Colorado and eastern Utah. If you live in the area and don't have an air purifier, you're probably going to want to get one. Or two. Maybe three or four . . . At least get one. #COwx #COfire

Satellite imagery is showing an intense, large hotspot emanating from the #JonesFire on the UT/CO border. Four hours ago the fire was estimated to be 1,450 acres, but it's conceivable that it has grown 10x since then. Fire weather conditions are extremely critical. Nearest station: 85 deg, RH of 6%, winds gusting to 37 mph. Even higher winds may be occurring based on other stations in the area. Door to door evacuations are occurring. #UTfire #COfire Satellite loop from @CIRA_CSU RAMMB Slider: slider.cira.colostate.edu/?sat=goes-19&s…

Recap from Round 2: Strong winds occurred across parts of the area including Chattanooga and East Ridge. Hamilton County had 37 reports of downed wires, 2 residential structure fires, one collapse/entrapment w/ injury, and one woods fire. More storms are possible in ~1.5-2 h.

A large area of destructive winds (80+ mph) are headed toward the #Chattanooga area in the next 10-25 minutes. Anyone in a mobile home should get a safer shelter/sturdier structure NOW! If in a regular home, go to an interior room on the lowest level, away from windows. #TNwx

Persistent Cerebral 18-FDG PET Changes in Patients With Long COVID Presenting With Fatigue and Post Exertional Malaise 🚨We already knew Long COVID brain damage could last 6 months. Now this new PET scan study proves it’s still there at 2 YEARS and counting. Hypometabolism hits the left sensorimotor cortex (movement + body sense), left superior parietal (spatial awareness + attention), and bilateral visual cortex (raw sight processing). This is NOT just “tired.” This is a broken sensory-motor command center. Is this the start of a lifelong neurological disease? ➡️Mayo Clinic observational cohort study of 40 Long COVID patients (70% female, median age 53) from a specialized clinic who underwent brain 18F-FDG PET-CT scans 17–149 weeks (median 62 weeks) after SarsCoV2 infection, ➡️73% had predominant fatigue with post-exertional malaise (PEM), ➡️This group showed statistically significant cerebral hypometabolism vs. non-PEM patients in the left sensorimotor cortex (p=0.0253), left superior parietal cortex (p=0.0276), and bilateral primary visual cortex (p=0.0096 and 0.0016), ➡️Abnormalities persisted already up to ~2 years post-infection, ➡️Scans used pons-normalized Z-scores against age/gender-matched controls with common comorbidities included psychiatric, GI, and cardiovascular conditions, ➡️Caveat: No references to vaccination status and/or reinfections, ➡️Authors propose 18F-FDG PET-CT as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker for the fatigue/PEM phenotype of Long COVID. ‼️So, AGAIN, Long COVID fatigue and PEM have a demonstrable, persistent neurological signature! Cerebral hypometabolism, still detectable on PET scans up to two years later and hits the left sensorimotor cortex (movement + body sense), left superior parietal cortex (spatial awareness + attention), and bilateral primary visual cortex (raw sight processing). This isn’t just “tired.” It’s a broken sensory-motor command center. 😡Study proves LC is biologically real, not psychosomatic or any other stupid FND diagnosis. Without urgent validation of this biomarker and targeted therapies, patients will continue to be dismissed despite objective brain damage! #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections #BrainDamage journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/21…
