Exantus was sentenced to 20 years in 2018 after being found not guilty by reason of insanity for the m*rder and guilty but mentally ill on the assault charges.

Decarlos Brown Jr. slaughtered Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, NC and was found incompetent to stand trial.

But now that he’s facing the death penalty he’s miraculously ‘incompetent’ and cannot be judged. My blood is boiling. I am imploring that the collective internet take a step back and understand how the justice system works, that this is not a plea of insanity at the time of the murder, and incompetence to stand trial is not a defense of the crime. It is a constitutionally protected right, that you have to be able to understand the proceedings and help in your defense.
Also, this trial is not over, the defense and prosecutor agreed to a 180 day hold, and the trial will continue once it is determined he is fit to stand trial. I like everyone else want to see him found guilty for the heinous crime, but the rage bait/ignorance over this is too much. No matter what this guy will never walk the streets again.
