My mind is a landscape of mystery, of thrills, a place where even the bravest of traveler would be shaken by its geysers of original thought

@CullenHoback @nytimes After hearing him talk so much about all the reasons why he cant be Satoshi, im just curious what his reasons would be that other specific people are.

The @nytimes cites Money Electric as the inciting incident for their Adam Back investigation. But it's more than just a scene—Back is the main character. Much of the runtime is cat and mouse with him. The film asks from the start whether Blockstream (his company) is an extension of Satoshi as they try to make bitcoin the global standard. A bit of context: @JohnCarreyrou

@jscottiii @FoxNews Conservatives should he the angry ones. I dont think theres a more conservative stance in the world than "actually law enforcement should have to abide by the constitution" or "i dont think state employees should be able to execute you without due proccess"

@FoxNews Liberals will be fuming. Not because a cop lost his life at the hands of a criminal, but because the criminal was killed during crimes including morder.

"We intentionally ran him over...don't shoot at cops." A California sheriff says an armed suspect killed a deputy and barricaded himself when an eviction notice was served — but is now dead and "got what he deserved."

@oparaanthony6y1 @FoxNews Protect and serve doesn't mean you get to throw away the constitution and act as judge, jury and executioner. This needs to be investigated, people need to be fired, and someone needs to go to prison.

@FoxNews Protect and serve includes protecting your own. Hard to argue with the outcome after a deputy was killed.

@CullenHoback @JohnCarreyrou You think back disappearing from the internet at the perfect time, then Satoshi only reappearing to agree with something back was arguing in favor of all over the place, is pure coincidence? Could it be more than one person, and "we are all Satoshi" is a clever little in joke?

@JohnCarreyrou Not aiming to do a debunk thread (and I think Back got involved waaaay earlier than he claims). There’s a reason the last line of Money Electric is "If Todd and his friends at Blockstream were in fact behind Bitcoin.” But ya know, time will tell :)

Ha, well, I'm glad you found Money Electric valuable @JohnCarreyrou. Wish you'd reached out. I thought Back was Satoshi for much of production. But there's some tough contradictions. The code is a huge one. Back doesn't use Hungarian notation. Satoshi uses it consistently throughout Bitcoin v0.1 (an unconventional dialect no less) Hungarian notation is a variable naming convention that prefixes names with type codes: nFeeRate (integer), fValid (boolean), strError (string), pindexBest (pointer), hashGenesis (uint256).

@adam3us @InfoSpace_OG You never asked? You were so sure bitcoin was gonna work (despite earlier crypto attempt all failing) that you went all in with some guy who could've been a Federal agent for all you know? Seems unlikely.

i'm not satoshi, but I was early in laser focus on the positive societal implications of cryptography, online privacy and electronic cash, hence my ~1992 onwards active interest in applied research on ecash, privacy tech on cypherpunks list which led to hashcash and other ideas.

Post-Big Dig Boston is fine. But I can say, having grown up there when all the relevant local planning debates were playing out: the ambitions for the city were far, far grander than what 2020s Boston is actually like.

@JacobAShell The big dig in Boston was absolutely a boondoggle that cost way too much but there’s no denying that it has vastly improved Boston

Well said. If you live in a decent sized town I refuse to believe it’s necessary to travel for games for kids under high school age. There are plenty of teams to play in your city.

The trickery of this new documentary was getting some unsuspecting people to believe this newly discovered film reel was “made” prior to 1967, before the Bluff Creek footage was obtained, rather than what it really is — footage of a goofy looking replica of the Patterson creature made subsequent to 1967. Their evidence is markings showing the film stock was manufactured in 1966. Those are Kodachrome manufacturing marks, not marks from the development process. But when the director was able to persuade some trusting people like Jeff Meldrum and Patricia Patterson of his timeline before showing them the reel, he could get stunned and emotional reactions from them. Whereas if they knew the reel might have been shot after 1967 … they would have rightfully said it is irrelevant. They would have seen it as a janky attempt to replicate the Patterson creature after the fact. But no …

@ModernExplorer5 I don't know if Meldrum was paid for his appearance but I'm told that everyone who was filmed had to sign an NDA preventing them from speaking about the movie before it is released. Meldrum died several months before the release of the film. Munns is still alive though.

I mean, this gets into actuarial analysis on the amoral side or consequentialist ethics on the moral side, right? I think an 85% consensus answer would be "More than two hours of agony, after endangering another human for nine months." No one likes the word 'deserve' in this^ context, but - to some significant extent - this hard-trad stuff strikes me as a right wing version of "Cute brown kid cry...guess we must open border." I --- just would allow D&Cs at two months as an alternative to risky nine month pregnancies, killing 1+% of women, that would invariably produce babies to die within a day. A leader unable to make this decision is garbage.

Lived for how long? This fetus was kept alive for seven months to suffer for two hours after birth? Purely from an optics standpoint, I encourage pro-lifers to focus on stories like this that have a HAPPY ending - I keep expecting the kid to live and grow up, not agonizingly wheeze to death in exactly the fire-air the doctor warned about.
