there is a common type of person who demands they should be able to get all the achievements on a first playthrough of a game without any challenge whatsoever. thankfully talented and inspired developers are beginning to cater to them! not like theyre called "achievements"

@throwaway18883 @john35597086 2033 Redux has “streamlined” gameplay that removes options and makes it way less challenging, they changed the character models and atmosphere for the worse, changed the VA, changed some gun effects, stuff like that. Personally I think it’s downgrades across the board

Played a story-driven, period piece video game with very little actual gameplay. It had a great soundtrack and hit all the right emotional beats while perfectly capturing the time period it was set in.
Of course, I'm talking about Emio: The Smiling Man - Famicom Detective Club

I gave a 10 to a 3-hour indie game with no fail state, only walking and interaction segments with minigames that only require QTE button pushes, and only 4 characters. These can be valid, important games. It all depends on execution and audience impact. washingtonpost.com/entertainment/…

Remakes do have many good qualities. - Help games to reach new audiences. - Can make classic games better or change them in interesting ways. - They work well in-between new games that typically have longer development times. - Can help fund new games.

Mixtape looks lame but it's activating the same somewhat inexplicable berserk button as Project Hail Mary where people are genuinely trying to argue that a work of art being corny is the same thing as it being evil and anybody who actually goes outside can tell that's bullshit

@solrocknroll Edith Finch is one of my favorite games of all time and Mixtape sucks ass. It’s a total step down from Artful Escape and it’s never really elevated by being interactive or doing anything interesting with the music at all

@JeffMoo62074 @VashKohime It didn’t resonate that much with me but I enjoyed it. The people getting berserk over this also got berserk over Gone Home and Edith Finch. For some reason, walking simulators just make people seethe with frothing rage when they’re still games with game elements

@DJWarnerStage It’s a bad example of the type of game it is. Their last game had more engaging and playful sequences, this is just trite the whole way through and the interactivity never elevates it. There’s plenty of better gameplay-light experiences with better writing.

Some people's reactions to this getting good reviews is proof to me people see art as mcdonalds orders.
So if it doesn't get into their checklist it's automatically worthless garbage, with 0 value, and industry plant.
Such a weird way to engage with video games as a medium.
