@Lizze569 @abxc___ @masmorena_ Yep. Even having lived in Mexico, my cultural experiences are all unique to being from Jalisco. I can’t relate Mexicans from other regions. Different foods, different traditions, different ways of speaking, different geography. There’s just not much in common and that’s fine.

another big take away from this argument is that gringo to Mexicans means American but what they fail to realize is that gringo to Mexican Americans means white. And u know why??? Bc MA are not “American” and they don’t view themselves as that.

@PayaCahuite @abxc___ @masmorena_ to a fraction of the culture. It’s not comparable to growing up literally in the culture. I did not have the same experiences as someone who grew up completely in Mexico. I can’t relate to them the way I can to the people I actually grew up with. It’s not about superiority.

@PayaCahuite @abxc___ @masmorena_ I don’t think American culture is superior to Mexican culture. I think the area my family is from is beautiful and the lifestyle is far better than what I’ve experienced in America. But I’ve spend the vast majority of my life in America. Having immigrant parents only exposes you

@hishoespanic @masmorena_ @abxc___ Except it’s not a race so no it’s not “in my blood”. That would be a mix of native and Spaniard same as most people across all of Latin America, not just Mexico. I don’t go around claiming to be to Spanish or claiming to be native just because it’s “in my blood”.

@sloptopdizzle @masmorena_ @abxc___ They are bro what’s wrong with you people 😂 You are all the same people for Christ sake It doesn’t matter, the culture from Nuevo León and from Chiapas is different as well, and yet they’re both the same people lmao If they are of your blood, they are one of you

@masmorena_ @abxc___ Except they literally aren’t. Different culture and not Mexican citizens = not Mexican. Why is that so hard to understand?

@sloptopdizzle @abxc___ Okay and that’s perfectly fine and respectable but u don’t get to tell other people what to identify as. Mexican culture in Mexico is very different to Mexican culture in the US. No one is denying that. They’re just saying they are also Mexican as well as American.

@abxc___ @masmorena_ growing up and living in Mexico vs the US is so vastly different that the people really don’t share much in common. It’s weird for Americans who never lived there, and don’t have the citizenship, to claim an identity they have nothing to do with.

@abxc___ @masmorena_ I’m a first gen Mexican American. I split my childhood living between both countries. I naturalized and became a Mexican citizen. Even then, I wouldn’t really consider myself a real Mexican. Legally speaking, I am, culturally speaking, no.

@MariaTorre8475 @DGen_Media Cancun is in the Yucatán peninsula. The Mexicans there descend from the Mayan’s the same way the Central Americans do. It’s been historically isolated due to the tropical environment being hard to navigate

@_BigBert_1 @vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 I moved from a neighborhood that was roughly 80-90% Hispanic to one that is less than 10% hispanic. When I lived with Hispanics it was them who acted like we weren’t American. Outside of that bubble, I’ve never been treated as anything other than just American.

@_BigBert_1 @vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 Again, self imposed problem. Immigrants communities raising kids in a bubble and to think in a bubble. Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in America. I grew up in a “mexican” neighborhood. Of course you’re gonna be viewed as an outsider if you want to live like one.

@kez0rama @munsprn @itsmahiiix @rxdical @Ghandaizer @CloudyFelling When I lived in Mexico as a kid, yes. Yes we did. Every town had a town square where you could find everything fresh. Usually only a few minute walk from most homes. The idea of going to a supermarket and buying groceries for the week to put in a huge fridge is extremely American

@vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 It’s a self imposed box imo. My parents never made a big deal about their kids inheriting a Mexican identity because they recognized things for what they were. We grew up in a completely different world. My family background has never once come up as an adult. It’s not important.

@vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 Having Mexican immigrant parents and actually growing up and living there are two very different experiences. I honestly don’t understand why people are so insistent on claiming a cultural identity they never experienced

@vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 I spent a third of my childhood living there and naturalized as a citizen. Spanish was my first language since my parents didn’t speak English. Even being a citizen and having lived there, I wouldn’t even consider myself to be culturally Mexican despite being legally Mexican

@vegashotflash @kisstheladder8 I mean it’s just a statement of fact. It’s not meant to be positive or negative. Mexican is a nationality. Not a race. Not a culture. If you’d ever spent any time there you’d know how ethnically and culturally diverse it is from region to region. You have none of that in common.
