@WSYherbarium It looks like Wm. Keston to me, but an H is totally possible. For the second I see T&G (Torrey & Gray), which as an author string might not make sense in this context so that's probably no help.

Oh dear - can anyone help? Is this Keston or Heston and who is TFG? Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The picture frames came with my base kit. I swapped out the art for photos for women in herbaria -- Elizabeth Britton, Alice Eastwood, Pat Holmgren.

I've taken up crafting diy miniature room kits & there are no museum-oriented kits. So I took a kit (kept the walls, desk, chair, lamp) and turned it into a herbarium workspace -- with a herbarium cabinet, plant press, hand lens, and other accessories. #HerbariumLife #Herbaria

I needed a mental break from work tasks this afternoon -- made a work-themed NY herbarium snowflake from scrap paper #HerbariumLife

Playing around with video while imaging #herbarium specimens today. Wish our lightboxes didn't make these horizontal lines when you try and photograph them... #HerbariumLife

It's #NationalOnionDay! Did you know? 🧄🧅 Even if you didn't, it's always worth celebrating the genus Allium—which contains everything from garlic to white and yellow onions, chives, shallots, leeks, and other flavor makers. Even their flowers are lovely!

@jmheberling @socherbcurators We also store each of our type specimens in individual species folders, like at TENN, for that additional protection. My guess would be these might be used more widely if the collections are older, it would help protect the adjacent sheets if the mounting paper isn't acid free.

What’s the purpose of thin paper folders between #herbarium specimens? Just now learning many collections do it between every specimen. Is it considered best practice? Is it more common in Europe? I don’t think I’ve seen this in the US, but I don’t get out much. @socherbcurators

@PopulusEyedJo [in case you still need an answer] Fide is latin for according to, FNA probably means Flora of North America (although they could be the initials of a person)

Taxonomist/evolution friends!: Are you familiar with the term “monstrosity” in context of outlier phenotypes? A common term? I know Linnaeus used the term too but wondering if it had wider use.

An exciting week @CarnegieMNH #herbarium with our "newest" addition, specimens collected by French naturalist Michel Adanson in the 1700s, gifted to museum from @HuntBotanical. 25 incredible specimens in total, which Adanson called "Monstruosités"

@GenevieveTocci I know a curator at NY Harold Moldenke was a conscientious objector who was sent to Civilian Public Service camps in Ohio and Pennsylvania and was still collecting specimens while he was there. Comfort in the familiar I think.

Databasing specimens determined by researchers while WWII was raging is a reminder of others living through what felt like impossible times and still just doing day to day things. I wonder how those researchers/collections folx felt
